I needed a VTEC fix.
Whew! I had to step out for a cool air, drop top VTEC fix! It was so good for me. I shifted to second then slowly run it up to 5900 rpm then punched it! Wow! I dropped over 110 lbs of static weight off the car and when I punch the pedal it screams!
So did I! I got back last night after being in San Diego since Monday, and my buddy dropped my wife and I off at work, where we'd stored the S -- good security, underground, and we don't have a garage.
First of all, we were all amazed that we could get our bags into the trunk; they were HUGE, and we were assuming we'd have to leave one there and go get the other today, but my wife suggested we give it a try, and we got everything in; laptop in the trunk well, then her giant and densely-packed duffel, and my stuffed garment bag.
We had an Oldsmobile Alero as our rental, so needless to say, driving home was a blast after a week with that car. (However, as noted elsewhere, it was nice to not have to worry about parking spaces, driving behind trucks, etc.) I wish we'd had the S down there! We didn't see one the whole time, incidentally... We kept looking at each other and grinning as I zipped (as much as possible; there was a lot of traffice) around on the freeway.
Now for the sad part -- at the last light, I redlined first, shifted to second (pulling shifter to the left as recommended by someone here) and CRUNCH!! It's my 4th time having this happen, and it sucks! I've driven manuals forever, and drove a Type R for 2 years before the S and never had such a problem. I know, I know, vastly different gearboxes and all, but my friend has an S too, and always notes how well I shift the car -- except for the high-RPM 1-2 crunch, that is.
This never happens to me at low-RPM.
Does anyone know of a dealer in the S.F. Bay Area that will do the TSB service on this without a hassle? I'm a bit worried because it does not happen on *every* high-RPM 1-2 shift, but IIRC, the TSB says it's intermittent.
This really sucks! (But, it's not going to deter me from going out and enjoying the gorgeous sunny day we're having!
)
Thanks for listening; I'm pretty bummed to have this problem on my '02, but hopefully will be able to get it fixed. In any case, the crunch only slightly diminished the pleasure of returning "home".
