Thumbs down I really hate how everyone sterotypes young teens

To start off, I AM a young teen (16 years old) and not considered by any means to be a grown adult, therefore have little say in this matter... but keep in mind I paid for my S2000 (bought it used for 14k), have not crashed any time (people have actually backed into me twice), Autox it every month so I DO respect the car and how deadly it can be, and I am about to buy a used 2005 Yamaha R6 for my b-day (a present from me, well, to me ).... I have a 3.9 gpa in school, and I have two jobs on top of that.

BUT ANYWAY... most teens I must say (at least here in San Antonio, but I am shure I speak for everywhere and everyone) are extremley immature and I see cars crahsed in my high school about every week... I mean... SOME KID ROLLED OVER THEIR CAR RIGHT IN FRONT OF SCHOOL last week! makes you wonder how it happened doesnt it??

Whats worse, most of the people I know drink and drive, and I dont mean drink... I mean DRINK! and drive. I dont know how most kids my age manage to get by I guess since most of them get everything from their parents they dont appreciate what they have...

I am just mad of kids saying that they dont like their cars; or they drive them to stupid (not fast, but just stupid); and complain that they want a better car when they dont even have a job or make money by themselves....

And I can easily tell you (being one of them, not bad drivers but 16 yrs old ) that 99.9% of teens are the worst drivers in the world!!! They dont pay attention to what's on the road or don't take the time to learn how to drive good... AHH!

... what do yall think?

"A car is like a gun, you need to learn how to use it and respect it " <--- Is what most teens dont get... and trust me i've asked!

agreed. ill also add many teens on internet car boards talk lots of sh*t and try to show off. stereotypes of teens are usually true, so i dont stop myself from using them. but there is always the rare exception. be one.

While I cannot fathom how any teen can afford to purchase any year S2000, plus insurance, let alone an R6 and insurance, I do believe the two that have posted above treat their cars with respect because they have earned them...they weren't a freebie from daddy and mommy.

I suspect that you both, basslover911 and joefarts(nice), are in the minority of responsible, sports-car driving teens, and hopefully your good example will rub off onto some of the teens who are ready to roll papa's lexus into the bus lane.

I just turned 20, and I am on my fourth car. I went from:

2002 WRX
to 2005 TSX
to 2004 STi
to 2002 S2k

Hard to believe I paid for them right? I worked my butt off since I was 14, because all I really ever cared about was cars. I just believe in having what you want when you can afford it. I wanted an STi since 2003 when I first heard about it, and when I could finally afford it. Once I had it, it just wasn't what I thought it would be and I found myself really wanting an S2000. Everyone thinks my parents have paid for all my cars and all of the things I've put on them, which really pisses me off.

And another thing...only one accident and that's because some idiot in a Jetta nailed me in the rear in the pouring rain. Kids can be responsible too.

Unfortunately you guys are not the norm. I applaud you for paying for the car; however, from my experience it takes a certain maturity to appreciate this car. You guys may have it now, but most your age don't.

I got my car from my parents for "free" (as in never made a payment to honda finance) but that no where near means I don't respect my car at all. Quite the opposite. I'm a very anal person especially when it comes to my little pride and joy.

I learned manual on it with my father. I drove it a lot when I was 16 with my father as well (only had a permit). When I turned 17, I drove it all the time and so on and so forth.

I've brought my car to MANY autoX's and even a track event. I'm very aware of what the car is capable of doing. Thank god, I've never had the unfortunate turn of events some people have had. But I'd say I know more about the handling of the car then most people do as a teenager let alone an adult. I've also driven in ~4 inches of unplowed snow without mishape (for those of you who have, you know what I mean). Adults can be just as unaware of a cars abilites as a teen.

I do agree most teens don't respect cars and don't know what they are really driving. I believe I'm an example (as others) of a teen who knows his car and respects it.

Just because I didn't pay for it doesn't mean my 10 thousands dollars into mods doesn't mean anything to me

Would it have really mattered?

You sound like a good kid but you are still a kid but it sounds like you may survive the experience. The only way to fix your problem is to get closer to your ultimate and inevitable death and decomposition. There is no rush. Smell the roses while you are there.

My situation is similar... My parents are giving me the car once i get my drivers license, and i too learned how to drive a stick from my father. (Granted, I still could use a litte more work but i can drive it on a day to day basis if i needed to.)

Stareing at it for 2 years has made me appricate and respect it much more. I too am fully aware of what its capable of and i have no intention on abusing it. And i know most kids my age would drive the #@*& out of this car but i try to drive in a more matured manner than most kids my age.
