I refused S2000 from Dealer.
I just returned from my Dealer and when I inquired about the miles the car had I looked for myself and there were 95 on it.
I asked how did they get on there, his reply they come in quite often with miles already on it, this dealer picked this car up from another dealer and trailered it in, I said I bet people were test driving this car and not following the manufacturers guidelines concerning rpms well he said I can vouch for the dealer but I said you cannot guarantee me that someone did not test this car for what it is, a sportscar/Hotrod and if I was given the opportunity for a test drive I would certainly not refrain from testing what it has.
I told them to keep the car and they refunded my deposit, so I guess I'll look elsewhere.
Thanks to the information discovered here I possibly saved myself headaches down the road at least I won't have doubts and concerns in my mind.

i think you overreacted just a little bit. I read somewhere that honda overly track tests one out of every three s2000's to ensure reliability- this could be where the miles came from. My s2000 came with 42 miles on it- but the dealership where I bought the car showed me the shipping documents for the car on the boat, and a notation showed it had 42 miles on it on the boat. I also got one of the first '02's delivered in the US last year (october) and the day it arrived off the boat/truck, I was there to pick it up- it still had the body plastic and shipping packing on it when I arrived at the dealership, so I doubt anyone test drov it in that condition. Now, whether someone (other than honda engineers) beat the piss out of it in japan before it went on the boat, I'll never know, but you may have jumped the gun a bit.
I see your point about the mileage, but do you think everyone that takes one of these for a test drive really pushes them to the limit? When I tested one I kind of took it easy because the last thing I wanted to do was have something happen to the car with the salesguy sitting next to me.But I do agree that many miles on a new car is high,I think most people took delivery with 6-12 miles on the odo.
Whether or not it had 43 or 95 miles, unless you got proof like gomason, I think what you did was reasonable. Mine had 3 or 5 miles on the odo, and the one I test drove I drove in the VTEC range, so I was satisfied knowing that mine had gone from the truck to the showroom floor where they wiped it down with diapers and kept it locked unless someone was looking at it specifically. I believe that you did the intellegent thing.
Mine had somehing like 36 miles on it when I got it and I had ordered it and waited 7 weeks for it to be built. I know the salesman took it to fill it with fuel but otherwise, no one drove it in America before I did. Now I can't speak about being driven in Japan though. My suggestion is order one.
You have got to go with your gut on things like this, at least that is my point of view. I'm sure you really wanted that car, but your gut was telling you no. Good for you for listening to your instinct!
My car had 7 miles on it when I opened the door and it was still covered in plastic.
My salesperson told me the car would need to be tested by the dealership and they would put about 10 - 15 miles on it. He was so concerned about the additional miles that needed to be put on it he told me when the car was going to be taken out and said if I needed to go with the mechanic he would set it up. I was having a day from hell at work so I declined but I have total confidence the mechanic had been spoken to and did no high RPM shifts.
At 95 miles I suspect I would have done the same thing you did. Good luck finding a new car, there are some great dealers out there, it just seems they are getting harder and harder to find.

mine was still covered in plastic when i got it too...i probably would have used it as a bargaining chip to further reduce the price or get some free accessories, but realistically, i would probably still take the car. I am impressed with your will power though...i think i would have accepted mine if it was missing the passenger seat! I couldn't wait another minute. Good luck

I think you did the right thing, after all its your money. If you wouldn't have been happy with the car then by all means go look for another. I picked mine up with 8 miles on the odo and the plastic still on the car. My dealer had to trade to get the car and I was able to ride up with a someone from my dealer and drive the car back myself and then watch the PDI. A little overboard on my part perhaps, but I made a day of it and had a good time and the comfort of seeing the whole process.
My car had 8 miles on the odometer as well. 95 miles is a lot, probably a lot of abuse from test drives. I think you made a smart move. I mean, to most of us myself included, 32,000 is a hell of a lot of money.
