Excellent decision.

You're spending $30K+.

The dealership where I bought my car stated that they don't let anyone test drive the brand new s2000 at all. They would only let them test drive the used ones if they have one in stock. If they don't have an used one available, the person can only test drive the car after having made a deal and signed the papers with deal completing "subject to test drive".

If I remember correctly, my car came with around 20km on the odo or around 12 miles

Personally I would not care.

My S2k saw VTEC at 20 miles (in a gentle manner).

If everyone was like you, they ALL would have been vtech'd before the break-in period! Your car, your choice but I found the above comment to be somewhat "don't do what I would do." You want to run the car past VTEC to test out the hot rod but want your neighbor to buy it while you take the one that hasn't been driven yet? A perfect break-in on a car delivered with 5 miles on the odometer guarantees nothing. I'd have used the mileage to get a great deal on an extended warranty or free oil changes, etc but have purchased way too many cars to think delivered mileage guarantees anything. I realize when you take delivery you want the extra virgin model but a week later when the car has 200 miles on it, does it make a difference at that point? Like I said, I don't fault your decision but I just found it funny that in the same breath you say you'd have thumped on one yourself. You didn't mention it being a pre-owned model.

It would be terrible to get a car with more than 5 miles on the ODO.
You really are in need of some help if you feel this way. 5 miles is nothing.

mines had 16 miles on it and was never test driven according to my salesman. at the dealership i bought the car at, there is a black leftover '02 s2k that everyone(including myself) test drives. they do not allow brand new '03's to be test driven. mine had 6 miles on it when it came off the truck, and the tech put 10 miles on it during PDI. I saw the tech myself and he looked like he was in his 50's, so I doubt he abused the car (but you never know... ).

If a brand new s2k has < 20 miles, you are usually ok.
