It was hard as hell for me to get a test drive for the first time. Just had to get to the right dealership. What I did was call around first and talk to someone. Explain your interest in the car and gather general information about it. I did that and before too long into the conversation I was offered a "discovery drive". It's a lot easier that way than just showing up. So here's what you do

Call around and set up a discovery drive
enjoy

OR

Lie to them. Car salesmen are not your friends.

bought mine on Ebay.

The dealer would not talk to me. I asked specifically if i could go for a test drive, and that i was willing to make a deal on the one they had in the parking lot.

The sales lady said that it was "company policy" to not test drive S2000. I told her that i was just about to graduate, had some money burning holes in my pockets but since i am a big boy (6'4") i wanted to make sure that i fit before i dropped $40k (CAN).

She was not having it. Would not even unlock it so i could sit in it.

You could have seen her face when i came back 2 weeks later. She thought i was there to make a deal. I played along, and this time she let me sit in it, but still no go for the ride.

When we got back inside, she asked if i wanted to sit down to talk numbers. I told her that was a very nice offer, but mine was the yellow one in the shop, getting the oil changed.

You should have seen her face. It was priceless.

The one I bought on ebay, i had checked out at the local dealer in Denver. I had them do a pre-purchase inspection and give the results directly to me (not the seller)

as it turned out, that dealership had taken care of that car since it was new (both owners brought her there for maint)

worked out very well IMO
Yeah, I have not been impressed with the Honda sales people. Meanwhile, my local BMW dealership lets me sit in the new M3 all I want. Also, insisted that I take the 135i for a spin. Those are all $40k+ cars.

[QUOTE=Paul S,Jul 18 2008, 09:23 AM] There is a difference between a 10 seconds to 60mph El Dorado's (which, by the way, only came with 3-sp autos.

I just bought my 05 with 17Kmiles for 20.5K . Private party foundon Autotrader....
DAMN!!! That's a good deal! I got my 05 about a week ago for 22K Private party. Car came with a few goodies, like Defi Gauges(water temp and oil pressure, good to keep an extra eye on in this damn heat) besides that the car is BONE stock. With about 27K miles. Now I feel like I got ripped off! The car is an AZ car so it's in amazing shape. Oh well.

The car is a ton of fun and it does handle very well. The only thing that sucks is that all the idiots want to race me, they see the gauges and think I'm boosted and want to race. Especially Mustang Owners, I don't know why, they always tail gate me, pull next to me and rev.

Not as much as high powered RWD manual cars. There is a reason why insurance companies rate RWD sport cars higher than 4-door AWD cars.

I have driven plenty of them. Nice of you to assume. 67 Stingray w/427, posi, M-21 trans., etc. Beast of a car. As long as I wasn't pedal to the metal, it was definitely easier to drive than the S2000. Even swinging the rear out was MUCH easier than the S2000 and more controllable. On the other hand, the Shelby Cobra (kit replica) was a bit twitchy and harder to control. Spun out a couple times during a run (auto-x).

Tell that to all them youngsters that have already crashed, rolled, flipped, totaled their S2000's.

[QUOTE=SpudRacer]So the old RWD cars from the 60's were slow boats that only your Grandma would drive!

And in the next sentence, the 60's cars were thundering death traps for our nations youth!

Read what I wrote, old man. I said, when "not pedal to the metal", which means just plain old mellow driving, it was easier to drive. Torque down low is nice to drive around in. And I did own a MY2000 S2000. Thanks, though. Auto-x'ed and tracked. What have you done with yours? "Spirited Drives" in your neighborhood? Street race Civics? Make you feel young again, gramps?

OK, let me get this straight......You're the one in love with 40 year old technology. I'm defending modern, safe sports cars.....and you think I'm "a pissed-off greasy street racer from the 60's" or a character from a 70's TV show.

[QUOTE=Paul S,Jul 17 2008, 06:17 PM] Do yourself a favor and get a Civic or something else cheap and FWD as your first manual car.

Please indicate exactly where you said this in a previous post so that you don't look like a complete liar/loser.
