Actually your wrong their kinda. maybe. Awhile back i was just running cars through geico quotes just for kicks. The wrx sti was more than a viper. So i double checked just now to make sure i wasnt crazy cause it sounds crazy. I put in a 04 wrx sti and an 04 viper srt10.

viper =3122 per 6 month

wrx sti = 3427 per 6 month

I just filled out the forms and got to the first page that gave a quote and took the number from their. It may only be in my area or something else odd like that. Because it seems extremely strange just by the price difference in these cars. Isnt a viper about twice as much as an sti?
Wow that's outrageous! What's your quote for an S2000?

A year ago I checked a quote for an S2000 and the quote was so high I decided it wasn't worth getting an S2000. My Prelude got totalled so I had to shop for another car. I didn't consider the S2k because of insurance, but I decided to check anyway. Suprisingly the quote was lower than my Prelude! So with that, it was a done deal!

I don't have an s. Currently i have an rsx-s but its on my parents insurance. I do plan to sell it and get an s though. But either way i would keep it on my parents insurance policy until im 25 lol..

Would the turbo on the sti be why it is so much? I heard that stock turbo cars are more to insure but still a sti puts out what 400hp and a viper is 600+.

Turbo does not directly have an effect in the insurance rates. Like I said, I'm betting the higher costs are mostly due to young kids buying them and crashing them. The EVO insurance rates should be the same.

BTW, STi puts out 300hp.

Hariku,

Do you look young by any chance (I'm 24)? Maybe if they think you're not serious (them pre-judging you because you look young) then they come up with some excuse for not letting you do a test drive. I know car salesmen are infamous for "profiling" even based on race/gender/age.

When I went in the salesman was pretty cool about it, I think he figured I might buy the car, but I was surprised he let me drive it AFTER i told him that I havn't driven a manual for a long time. I'm sure he could tell that during the drive especially since I didn't know how to get into reverse!

Paul S,

I was thinking about the civic si but I really didn't feel like I was getting any performance upgrade compared to my accord v6. It handled better but not that much better than the accord and it felt less powerful. Also I like the roadster appeal on the s2000.

I do understand what you're saying because I think a lot of new s2000 drivers might drive recklessly and don't respect the car's reflexes, but I'm a pretty conservative driver, at least until I know the car very well, I'm not trying to race it around public roads.
IMHO I don't believe looking young has anything to do w/ a salespersons willingness to let you test drive a car. I'm now 24 and do look very young for my age (about 19-20 looking or so) LOL! I test drove my first S when I was 20, so imagine how young I looked then LOL! Between 19-24 I've test drove numerous S's, Z's, and even a Lotus Elise. It all depends on how mature/serious you are that determines the keys being handed over. It eases the salesperson that you're not gonna peel out, rag out, and wreck their 30k+ sports car.

I went to test an s2k. The dealer just said they dont test drive s200s and i said well how to people know if they really want one. He says well they usualy have already had one in the past. So i go to a private lot. I have never had any luck at private lots. Any way i ask the guy their and he is like the only way you can test drive it is if i have a check in my hand. I didnt show up in an old beater either. I was in my rsx-s wich looks pretty nice and all.

Any tips on how to get in one lol..
Same here. Dealers don't seem to take me seriously ... never thought I'd need lessons in dealing with used car salesmen. I'm 25, but have been told I look younger ...

I'm not about to dress up or borrow my parent's car to fit their profiling.

Last comment was "well you can drive it if you buy it". No shit. Last car I bought I wasn't allowed to drive ... that's going to be a great improvement.

Next car I'm shopping for I'll just be a jerk ... maybe they'll take me seriously then.

I dont believe i act immature when i talk to the sales people. I ask about the cars history and answer any questions the dealrs ask but in the end they wont let me test drive it. They will open the door an let me in but not drive it. They dont even offer to take me for a ride. I have a nice car and i dont dress immaturely either.

Has anybody recently bought a 2004 or 2005? What kinda prices should I expect, maybe $17,000-$19,000?
You should be able to find one for about $18k-$22k, just depends on the miles. They hold value pretty well. Mods and miles will kill the resale though, unless they can bring it back to stock without ypu knowing.

CarMax in Austin made an offer for mine. Mine is an 05 w/32k and they said $18,500.00 and that was with or without me buying a car. I bought it 1 year earlier w/20k miles for $22,000.00. They had a Silverstone just like mine but an 06 with 16k for $26k and it wasn't on the lot long.

Their was an 04 with 60k miles on it for 20k at a dealer near me. It sold before their autotrader add even went up. I check often and i saw the car called them and they had already sold it. Im not sure what it actually sold for though thats just the listed price.
