gobs of torque? duh. its a 4banger

did i say thats what the s2000 is about?
I understand what ALFYonso is saying. It has enough hp for me. But among performance cars, the power of the S2k isn't that great. Compared to small displacement engines it is great power. But that doesn't change the rating of the power among performance cars or $35k cars.

Personally, I am happy with the perfomance and economy of the S2k. I really don't care if Honda used a 32 valve four cyclinder (they have one) or pushrod V8. As long as the car handles well and does roughly 6 sec to 60mph and gets mileage in the mid 20s.

And keeps the convertable top!

I have to disagree on the trunk. Wife and I travelled for a week last year. It was tight but doable. Clothes, cooler, car wash supplies. We were OK.

Guys, the 240Z is a hardtop, not a roadster. Japanese GT car? Maybe, but the Datsun/Nissan Fairlady (1600cc and later 2000cc) roadsters did far more to define the Japanese sports car than any GT/hard-top car ever did. LOL, kids. Do any of you even remember the Fairlady?

I had two!

Both 66 1600s. One on the road and one was a project I never completed.

Whether or not a sports car needs to be a convertible is very debateable - but of course I know the Datsun roadsters. Cool cars (although I'd rather an S600/800) - they didn't have anywhere near the impact on sports car buyers as the 240/260/280Z did. Until that point Japanese sports car weren't the hottest sellers and the Z changed all that.

True, the Z is a Fairlady, but the ORIGINAL was a roadster, not a GT car. Nobody use to debate whether or not a sports car had to be a ragtop, but the world changes. "Ain't" didn't use to be in the dictionary either, and I still think that using the word is wrong.

Prior to the Mustang it was pretty much a given that a sports car was a roadster, and a roadster has a rag top. Them terms like "sporty car" were introduced, kids got interested, and the proper names for things got lost in a sea of chaos. Brock Yates you to like to grumble (even more than me) about such things.

Dang Dan what did you do, put the top down while the plastic was cold and brittle?

Well the reason the Fairlady didn't have a huge impact whereas the 240Z did, and infact the very reason Nissan developed the 240Z sports coupe was the zeitgeist of the time in the US.

The US in the mid to late 60's was extremely concerned about safety and convertibles were seen as unsafe. Nissan developed the 240Z for the US market and it was a hit.

No, it was actually kinda warm here in New England that night. Totally surprised me. All is well now, a strip of clear packing tape fixed it good!

Now I get to decide whether or not to have only the rear window replaced or the entire top

Or leave it with a strip of tape...
