Default i want an ap1. which year should i get?

i have heard of rumors that 00-01 s2k's have transmission issues. is this true???

- is there really a recall on these issues and would they be fixed by honda for free?
- which years have the tranny issues?

also looking at a 00 right now and its got 82,000 miles. original owner by a 62 year old lady.

- is this a lot of miles?
- should i try to find one that has lower miles instead?

also if i was to get a 00 s2k i wanted to take out the softop completely and just have the hardtop.

- is there a different hardtop for the 00-01 and 02-03. (since theres defrost on the 02-03's)?

thanks for the info guys.

Generally, when buying a used car you should try to find the newest lowest mileage car possible.

82k miles for an '00 means the owner put less than 10k miles a year on the car. Not bad for a daily driver. However, we have seen some people get decent deals on cars with very very low mileage (under 20k miles on an '00)...the the question is 82k miles too many is relative. How much are they asking for the car?

The major difference between the 00-01 and the 02-03 is the glass rear window top and the addition of tweeter pods in the doors for the radio. If you are getting rid of the soft top, then the glass window top is not a factor.

All s2k hardtops fit all years.

Haha, 62 year old lady? Is this a dealer? If it is, all cars that they sell have been previously owned by a "female" or "old lady" or "doctor" or "lawyer" etc.....

glass windowed softop ftw.

i wish i had a 03+.

keep the softop, add a hardtop..best of both worlds

also, things i shouldve known:

00,01 ap1's burn a bit more gas cuz their ECU runs richer. 02,03 has it updated so it gets better gas mileage.

if youre gonna mod a lot of shiet, 00,01 might be better so u wont run too lean, but 02,03 is better if youre keeping her stock.

mine is a 01, bought @ 54K miles, burns 1 qt every 3K miles. clean engine bay except for valve cover, no oil leak/trans leak or whatever.

body sucks though, so i sort of regret that...

S2ks have an issue where you can beat the synchro for 2nd gear causing the infamous 2nd gear grind. But that is not limited to the 00-01. There's nothing out of the ordinary about the 00-01 trannies.

And as far as true "recalls"...I only know of one, and that is for an issue with the brake lights. The color fades or something like that...you can have them replaced for free if that's a problem.

And ikeyballz is correct...the 02-03 ecu has a different fuel map and runs a bit more lean. It's good for an extra 2-3whp.
