Default I want to buy an S2000

I've wanted an S2000 since I saw the first one in Vienna, Austria in the fall of 2000. I've read and read about them and know that this is the car I want. But I'll soon be finishing my last year of college and I'm only 21. Then it's off to grad school. So money is tight, but if I really wanted to, I could put a down payment on it and work the rest off. My only question is what to buy. There is a part of me that thinks used is the way to go. Lower price, still the same great car. It's a Honda, so no worries about it being 'all worn out'. Add to that the wonderful respect that S2000 owners have for their car, and it would most likely be in an almost new state anyway. On the other hand, every car I've ever had has been used. And I so want to lovingly ease my brand new S2000 out of the break-in period and know that every mile was mine all mine. You are all owners who love your car no matter what state you got it in. Let me know what your thoughts are.

If you can afford it, get new. You never know what someone did to the used one. Or whether it was broken in correctly.

My advice would be to finish school first. You really don't want to be burdened down with a car payment at this critical time of you life. Focus on classes, graduate and then buy the car. This may sound like an "old guy" perspecive, but it isn't. I missed out on quite a bit of college experience because I had financial obligations that forced me to work.

Get a used one. You will be suprised at the money you will save, I saved over $7,000 off the new price and I got every option except the back seat pockets. My car had 24,000 miles, but I got a 100,000 mile warranty from Honda. So I actually have a better warranty than a new car! you can even find some used ones for about $24,000 now. Why pay $35,000 when you get get on for $24,000. You would have to be crazy to buy a new one now. I am in grad school, but work full time and I pay $560 a month for mine. I ended up paying 28,900 after my warranty and tax was added. I got 5.9% APR. If you got a new car with a 100,000 miles warranty, you will be paying like $700 per month! Think about it.

Get a use one with low mileage. I have save 8000$ (canadian $) for a car with 10 000 km, and the body was flawless.
I suggest u get an extended warranty if you can.

Thanks for the comments. Like I said before, there are, of course, good and bad (whatever is bad about buying an S2000!!!) points to the used/new argument. But I think it is good advice to get out of school first, I just get a bit anxious with a year left in undergrad and two more in grad school with all the talk of Honda constantly threatening to discontinue the S2000. Oh well, thanks for all your advice.

I know exactly how you feel. I wonder if there is any concrete announcements from Honda that they will be discontinuing the S2000 any time soon. I would be surprised, what with the new interior changes and all, but I've been surprised before.
