I have yet to drive/ride in an AP2 so my opinion could be slightly biased, but when I was searching for a S2000 back in the beginning of the year, I opted for going with the 02/03 AP1 for the following reasons:

1. Call me old school, but I'm not really keen on the design of the AP2 in the following regions: gauge cluster, rear bumper and center console. Granted, you can certainly switch those out for AP1/aftermarket items, but it's just not worth the hassle to me (especially the gauge cluster).

2. I've been a huge fan of the S2000 since it was first introduced. I can still remember the first time I saw the car in person and the impression that it had left on me. In my personal opinion and not to start another AP1 vs AP2 debate, the AP1 is Honda's original intent of what the S2000 supposed to be. Surely, the car had evolved as a result of the controversy of low torque for daily driving, twitchy suspension setup and various other reason to tailor the consumer market, but I still believe that the heart & soul of the original design/intent lies in the AP1.

Above are just my personal view of the differences. If I were to choose it again, I will probably make the same decision and go with a '02 or '03.

Eric

I loved my 00 Silverstone/Black red for five years and I love my 06 Rio/Black now. Best of both worlds.

BTW, Eric, you should drive an AP2. You'll probably like the car a lot more than you think you will.
