Yup! I have been doing Watkins Glen since 1990. My '90 CRX-SiR which got retired from track work in 2001 has about 8,000 Watkins Glen track miles on it, and now I'm working to get the S up there too.

Since you drove there they put in the chicane on the back straight, and now they call it the Inner Loop, although really- we all just call it the Bus Stop. Here is my S when it was very young going into the Bus Stop. Me Luv Watkins Glen.

What the S was meant to do, be it AP1 or AP2
Man! You've got some GREAT pictures!

The yellow really looks sweet on the track. Do you have a photo album on line anywhere?

Just to be clear, the S2000 is "just a Honda," just like the F1 car in my signature.
There is no shame in being a Honda. None at all.

(Nissan owners should not take that to be a put down of their cars. )

Hey I'm sure we can all agree that the 350Z is a boat. If the question was "which is better the S2000 or the 350Z" we wouldn't spend so much time on it...

I was fortunate enough to drive the revised track a few years ago in a Champ Car. I liked what they did as they slowed that area of the track down and made it a bit more forgiving.

Like I said it is one of my more favorite tracks that I have driven. Maybe because of it history and maybe because it is really a fun track to drive.

You can't honestly expect 70,000 users to join each other in harmony, singing and dancing trying to catch a butterfly. You give off the impression of someone who is a bit older than the new crowd (definitely +30), I'm actually surprised by your idealist optimism

If you really are out to put out the flame, I suggest making a second thread where you actually list, fact-by-fact, the differences and the nuances of each engine/make rather than have long paragraphs riddled with jokes. If the reader isn't already prejudiced against your opinion as a poster, the factual, listed thread will no doubt be much more effective.

I'm posting this because I don't think this thread actually delivers the message you were originally seeking to deliver properly or as powerfully as it could--and I wholeheartedly support putting an end to the childish ap1/ap2 whinefest. I would gladly make the new thread myself, but I simply don't have the knowledge, nor the celebrity status socially required for such a high-profile sticky thread
LOL. You are not any more surprised by my idealist optimism than I am surprised by your suggestion that I think we could expect 70,000 users to join each other in harmony.

We can't totally eleminate colateral damage, but that doesn't mean that we can't reduce it with effort.

I actually wish I was that much of an optomist. In truth I have serious doubts about whether anything anyone can do could ever make a difference (and I'm not talking about fixing all the wrong in the universe, but merely eleminating some of the wasted motion in a few places on a relatively small forum).

Your thoughts on presentation are most appreciated. Presentation is very important, and I wrestle with it a lot whenever I post. My attempts at humor aren't always funny (for all I know they may never be funny to anyone but myself) but I think I need the humor to help break the tension. I suppose it goes back to technical meetings and reviews where anything that could break the tension was more than welcome (it was often critical to maintain forward progress). Heck, I use to write technical material according to mil spec, and even there I was driven to try to break the tension and provide a little entertainment. I'm not at all sure how well the approach works on the Web, but in general, here on S2kI, the approach has produced more positive comments than negative comments, by a large margin, so for whatever that's worth, it does seem to me that it is at least fairly effective.

We actually already have lists of all the changes in stickies, but the design tradeoffs and such aren't really covered, and generally require some explination. We may have some people here who can look at the list of changes and see exactly how and why they were made, and what they accomplish, but most of us can't. Not everyone is even interested, but some are. I think we've see all of that, in this thread, and nobody seems to have gotten upset or offended too much, so I'm hoping we have at least accomplished a little. Maybe I am too wordy (I say that as if there were any doubt ) and maybe I joke around too much, but that's me, and my style, and somebody else who is better suited to making lists will have to write up the "dry lists."

You, my friend, are VERY diplomatic. I admire your style.
Rest assured that I truely appreciate your input, and please don't hesitate if you have any more suggestions. Even if I don't do a "dry list" maybe somebody else will.

Yes, I am in awe of your style and deplomacy.

Yea, we need to get the Nissan guys involved now.

Where's that can of gasoline. Oh yea ... It sometimes takes forever to get parts for a Skyline, and they guys who can get the few parts that are available charge way too much for their services. The 350Z isn't even in the same class as the S2000. It's not a purpose built roadster, so it's in a different class. Same price class? Whatever. Wank wank wank. Wank wank.

I actually like many of the Nissan cars. Between the CCR partners we have a 350Z, three Skylines, and a 240 based drift car. There may even be more but the guys have so many cars I can't keep up. People will argue endlessly about the R-32 and R33 Skylines, but we have both, and it's hard to argue that one is more desirable than the other. The R-32 GTR is the car that earned the nickname "Godzilla" because of the way it dominated race tracks in Japan. I think one of our R-32'a still holds some quarter mile and Pikes Peak record, but again, I can't keep up with all the things that have been done with all the cars. The R-33 GTR is a much improved car, in every way, being faster, quicker, easier to drive, more comfortable, and roomier. Anyone can see and feel the improvements with nothing more than a short test drive, and the more you drive the two cars the more improvements you notice. And yet the old R-32 is still smaller, a little lighter, and the way the things flex when you accelerate hard brings back memories of the old 60's supercars. Both cars bring back those memories, but the R-32 slaps you in the face with them, and it's pretty darn cool. I have no interest in owning a Skyline, but if I did, I'd want an R-32 GTR, and specifically, I'd buy Bigbird, which is for sale at this time. What a wonderful car! Godzillia, a car that shattered records around the world, and the very car that shattered a couple of them; My goodness, what more could you ask for in terms of history? You want torque? Better get a bigger hammer than the S2000 if you want the kind of torque the Skylines can deliever. Does that make the Skylines better cars? Is it offensive to anyone who owns an S2000? Tripper Cook's R-32 GTR daily driver is AWSOME by any standards, but if you say that in the wrong company you'll get a lecture on how much better the R-33 and R-34 are, and it is apt to make the R-32 sound like a piece of crap. I suspect that the guys that do that don't even know that the first GTR's were funky looking little cars that most of them wouldn't give a second look.

Good post! Turning point. How is it putting down the S2000 if somebody points out that a 350Z has more cylinders and displacement, and makes more "usable torque?" It's one thing to say that this makes it a better car, but what's wrong with noting the difference?
