Default Im a newbie with some questions

Hello everyone. I am happy to say that I have ordered my 2002 Black on black s2000. /cheer

I decided to buy the S2000 for a few reasons: I wanted a sports car, I wanted to not break the bank, and I also didnt want any of the "dime a dozen" cars you see on the street everyday(like mustangs etc..).
My car history is basically non-existant. I drove a 68 chevy nova 2 in high school for about a year and then sold it for 300 bucks.. which was exactly what I bought it for. Then my next car was a geo metro which I have now driven for over 11 years. I think Im FINALLY due for my first 'nice' car, and I decided the S2000 is it.

However, I am basically clueless as to most of the terms that I have been seeing quite a lot of and thought I would make this post to say hello to all the owners out there and to ask at least one first question: What the heck is a CAI? The only things I have decided to add to my car is the basic trunk spoiler and the fancy schmancy gear shift knob. Other than that, I do not know ...well anything about modifications on this car and what all they do for the car. Any help would be greatly appreciated as well as any suggestions followed by even more explanations. I will more than likely lurk around reading some more and throw in the occasional question or two. I just saw a LOT of people had a CAI listed as part of their modifications to their car and thought that would be a good first question.

Thanks in advance.

Maestro

Congratulations on your choice! Unfortunately, I don't own one myself, but hope to sometime in the not too distant future. Anyway, to answer your question, CAI stands for Cold Air Intake.

You'd save some money if you get the OEM accessories from one of the board sponsors compared to getting them from the dealer. Though in the case of the rear spoiler, you'd need to have the guts to drill the holes to do the installation. The Ti shift knob is easy.

If you plan to use it as a daily driver, you might want to consider things like full size, 1 piece floor mats, door sills protectors, etc. Take a look at the sponsor list at the bottom of this page and see what all is available. I don't know where Midland is but if it snows, then snow tires and possibly another set of wheels would be wise. Maybe a hardtop? As for dress up items and performance mods, that is a purely personal issue. For comfort, perhaps an aeroscreen to control wind turbulence in the cabin. You'll need the stock one if you plan to get the aftermarket taller insert. You can also get the aftermarket one that you don't need the stock base for.

Congrats on your purchase! After 11 years in a Geo Metro I think you damn well deserve this car Like you, I knew very little about cars and mods when I got my S2000, but after a month or two of reading on here, you'll pretty much be good to go - at least conversant in mods

Congrats again!

Do yourself a favor and take a good performance driving class and don't worry about the mods. (If you don't want to become another S2000 board statistic that is.)

This is not the ideal car to learn the handling characteristics of a high performance rear wheel drive automobile on.

Clue: It handles a little different than a Geo Metro.

Absolutely agree. A good driving school is worth it's weight in gold and will make you a much better (and likely faster) driver than any modification to the car is likely to make you.

Welcome to the forum, congrat's on your purchase, enjoy the car!
