Default I'm p*ssed off

Hello all,

I've been patiently looking for a clean S2000 for a while now. I'm located in Canada so my options are limited. I've been looking in the Pacific NW and western Canada for a vehicle that suits my criteria. I thought I finally found one within Canada. I spoke to the seller several times over the phone and e-mailed him even more. After all these conversations I felt his car would be perfect. Since his car was located 450 miles away I hired a very competent mechanic to look it over for me. The mechanic did a full inspection on the car and reported back that the car (a 2002) had been re-painted front to back. Not only that, several body panels did not match up. The front end was badly out of alignment and couldn't be aligned much further. His conclusion was that the car had been in a frontal collision but he wasn't sure how severe it was. Based on his observations (there are even more bad points that I haven't posted here) I decided to walk away from the car. I sent an e-mail to the seller telling him I was no longer interested.

The seller sent me an e-mail asking why I didn't want his car. He stated in his e-mail that he knew the car had been re-painted but that everything else was fine. I point blank asked him WHY THE #### he didn't tell me the entire car had been re-painted!!!! I said that if I had known this I would not have pursued this any further. I have yet to hear back from him and don't expect I will.

Man, I'm pissed right now. Why are people dishonest like this? I'm willing to pay a market price for a vehicle that matches the year, condition and mileage I'm looking for. Why are there scum bags that wish to take advantage of hard working, honest people like me who just want to spend the few "leisure" dollars they have on a small personal luxury??????

Sorry to whine and complain but I just had to vent about this. Please go back to your regularly scheduled activities, whatever they may be.

Thanks.

Don't be so upset. Be glad that you didn't get this car. The car buying process is very taxing, but in the end, you really will find a deal that you'll be happy with. A couple of years ago I was all set on buying what I thought was a gorgeous 968. I spent 200 dollars to have it inspected, and it turned out it was in multiple accidents. I was glad I found that bit out, and I moved on.

Believe me, a deal will come soon!

That's why we call them stealerships. Anyway, I think you could have saved some money on the hiring the mechanic by asking someone on here to do a carfax report for you.

BTW, be patient. One will come.

It was actually a private deal. One of my criteria for buying within Canada is to buy privately instead of a dealership as I'll not have to pay taxes.

As for Carfax, I'm not located in the U.S. I don't think Canada reports their vehicles as stringently as the U.S. so Carfax isn't as valuable. I could be wrong on this (please let me know if I am incorrect) but that is why I didn't use Carfax.

It happens a lot, that's why you get a mechanic to look over it.

Glad you did and didn't fall for this "deal".

I started out the same way: convinced that I would buy privately to avoid paying 7% tax. I looked, with cash in hand, for 3 months before I ended up buying it from a dealer. In the end I probably paid 4% more than I would have privately, but I didn't have to carry out a long distance transaction. It was worth the money.

People want to dump their problems on to other unsuspecting people hoping they can make the dough and get away with it

Carfax isn't the "tell all" that people think it is. Many things wont show up there.
