I'm such a clutz
So I'm searching all over town for some GM Synchromesh for my tranny fluid change. Finally find the last two bottles at a chevy dealer. Get home... jack the car up and set up the fill hose. Unscrew the top to the one bottle so I can test fit the hose in the fill hole.... then I accidently kick the $12 bottle of Syncromesh all over the floor. Toast!
Am I the only person who always has a murphies law incident when working on my car. Seems like something always breaks, or doesn't fit, or goes wrong!

Sorry to hear your fluid change didn't go as planned. Recently changed mine and had no issues with spillage. I was lucky enough to find two bottles of fluid at my local AC Delco parts dealer about 5 miles away.
The stuff is hard to find but I think it was worth the effort. Even though the car has 30k miles on it and the old fluid looked fine, I feel a noticable improvement in how smooth the shifts are. I'd say better than new.

Naw, I think most of us who do our own work have done something like this at one time or another.
I've got you beat: Was painting my house once. Newly opened GALLON can of paint at the top of the stairs. Hit it with the base of the ladder. The full paint can did a "slinky" all the way down the stairs.
