Question: If you decided to RIDE in someone else's car on a trip, could you still use your CL Type-S Navi in THEIR car?

A built in system will no doubt look better, but since we don't have that option except for tearing out the dash and doing a extremely expensive custom install, there's no better choice than the Street Pilot. And, as Reedz indicated, you can use it in your other cars or any car, for that matter.

Does the IPaq solution have voice? or directional arrows? Or just the map?

I have the Acura Nav in the MDX with the larger screen then the regular Honda/Acura Nav in my Ody (just traded). The main benefit of the in car systems is the voice integration with the stereo, and the touch screen. All I need is an integrated traffic feed.

For those out there who would like to spend even less money on GPS, and have a more portable solution... Garmin recently (Oct. I think) released the GPS V. It looks like the older GPS III but has turn by turn directions (just plug in the destination) and can be found for about $420. Pros: It's much, much smaller than the StreetPilot and can therefore be taken on hiking/backpacking trips; It's almost $400 cheaper than the StreetPilot; it can be mounted on a motorcycle without being "too much" of a distraction; it will also work with the ram mount. Cons: It's much, much smaller than the StreetPilot (screen is smaller and harder to read, though the black and white screen seems to be brighter in the sun than the color streetpilot screen); screen is black and white.

Just wanted to throw out another option

The Street Pilot III had voice commands, direction arrows, automatic zoom-in when turns come up. It's as full featured as any built-in system, plus the mapping options and software are much more robust.

It depends on the region and which size memory module you have. I have about a five state area (MD, VA, DE, NJ, PA) on the 128mb module.

I don't know if the Streetpilot III (very nice and I want to one!) also uses the Metroguide USA CDs that I'm using with my Streetpilot Colormap. But if they do, then this might give you a feel of how much memory is needed: The Boston map area covers everything in Massechusetts East of the Quabbin Resevoir and it only takes 6.4 Mb of memory. But the New York Metropolitan area (includes parts of New Jersey and Long Island) is split into two 7.2 Mb map areas (total of 14.4 Mb).
