Installed Street Pilot III
No, they only use proprietary Garmin MapSource products. This Garmin web page will give you an idea of what's available.
s2ktaxi,
It would be nice if all this mapping software were standardized to some interchangeable format. But that would be asking way too much of an industry that doesn't seem capable of standardizing anything.

According to Garmin it is due to be released here in March 2002.
That said, I don't know if it'll have maps then. Pacific Access, the company that does the White and Yellow Pages and WhereIs system, compiled the mapping data that is used by the Philips Carin/VDO Dayton and Blaupunkt systems. They have some exclusive agreement between PA and Philips for the maps and the license fee for the data is something phenomenal. That's why we don't get the Alpine, Clarion, or Pioneer systems here.
Don't know whether Garmin will cough up the money for a license, and even if they do it may be 2 year old data (no M5 or Brisbane City Bypass).
I'm expecting delivery of my VDO system from Germany (basically got it for about 1/2 price, $2000) and will be installing using the JDM Nav facia. Mind you, I won't be surprised if the second I cut my dashboard Garmin announce the StreetPilot for Aus!

. For me, I kind of like the idea of not having it installed in the dash. It would be great to use it in more than one car and to be able to remove it for security.
How does the Streetpilot III compare to the new Garmin V?
I know the V has grayscale and not color, but it also has autorouting and is way smaller than the Streetpilot. I thought I could mount it/sit it on the folded down stereo door, now that I have the Sony hardwired dash controls and don't need to touch the radio. It looks like it would fit nicely on that panel (removed when parked of course!)

The Garmin V just came out. You're not going to find too many people with experience with it. But if you're gonna run it on batteries, the Garmin V will last much longer. Otherwise, the color screen on the Streetpilot III is easier to read at a glance and therefore safer while driving.
The Garmin V has no voice prompts, but it does have audible beeps to alert you of upcomming turns. As you hear the audible beeps, you'll have to look at the unit to see which way you have to go. There will be an arrow pointing in the direction of the turn. It works just like the old Streetpilot Colormap except its not color and has automatic trip routing.
