Installed Street Pilot III
Rick, you can combine the Garmin with a Kenwood D7A(g) portable amateur radio or DM-700A mobile amateur radio and the APRS (amateur radio position reporting system) and the ham radio will report your position to the nearest APRS base station which will then feed it to an internet server and ANYONE who has web access and knows your call sign can find you, world wide.
You do need an amateur radio license to participate in APRS, but a "no morse code" license will do. It is easy to get with a little studying. www.arrl.org has lots of information.
www.kenwood.net has extensive information about the radios.
Go to http://web.usna.navy.mil/~bruninga/index.html for an introduction to APRS.
Go to http://map.findu.com/WT7T-6 to find my home station. I've just set up an APRS node in my dining room. (My wife is SO TOLERANT.)
The Garmin Street Pilot III looks very nice. I use a Garmin eTrex Summit backpacking and bicycling. The eTrex is only 4.5 oz with lithium AA cells installed.
GREAT install. I might do something like that for my Prelude.

I really need GPS for my job and the StreetPilot III looks perfect. What's wrong with mounting it in the center of the dash above the radio? Looks like it won't block the view through the windshield and is easy to read.

Rick,
Where did you get the RAM mounting system from, the one used in your first picture. Also, what is the mounting system used by ReedZ to mount his SPIII down next to the parking brake?
Thanks,
Don Miller

RAM mount is not part of the SPIII kit, I "made" this mount from parts found here:
http://www.cycoactive.com/gps/gallery/parts.html
I used part numbers; A, K, L, I, and depending on the height you want your GPS mounted an additional G, H, or I . I'll try to find a good photo of my mount and post it later.
