"Cheap", under 1k insurance rates are hard to achieve in NJ, if you're 1) under 25, 2) male, 3) live in bergen county (highest in NJ), 4) drive the S. In fact, it's IMPOSSIBLE.

It's all about location wasupdu.

I'm 24 and I pay $62/month with FULL coverage through State Farm. Also, the s2000 is only insured April (ish) - November since I drive my '05 Mitsu Endeavor in the winter.
This won't fly in many states. some states require you to maintain liability insurance on ANY car that is currently registered.. regardless of whether its driven or even running.

You don't have to pay to play.

Sure, your car is worth more. No argument. But is it worth enough more to justify some of the rates that it sounds like you guys are paying? Well, I guess that's up to you.

I still have FULL coverage on the car with a $500 deductible. IMHO, I would never pay more than $100/month for insurance (for one car). I'm a single guy with a decent driving record and I'm willing to bet that my insurance wouldn't be much more for a newer model, certainly not the thousands of dollars annually that some of you are paying.

On a side note, how can you justify a monthly car payment (which I'd assume most of you with newer models have) that's nearly the same amount as your insurance?
I'm not paying more than 100/month, I'm paying about 100/month. Price it for yourself. New, 2006 S2000, full coverage. It's much cheaper to insure a 6 year old car, when you can afford to buy a new car you'll get the same shock that I did. My insurance rate more than doubled with this car. I called 5 different companies, all about the same.

Wait, I can't believe I'm waisting my time with this, piss off...

Yeah, VA's that way. Insurance company reports you if you let it lapse.

I pay less than $400 a year for mine with a $500 collision deductable and boosted liability limits. It helps that I'm 45, married and they insure my home too. It's also listed as pleasure use with a 7500 mile limit. I've never hit the limit because it is stored during the winters. During the winter, I turn in the plates and suspend all coverage except comprehensive.

I pay $950/year through Liberty Mutual. 33 male with $250 comprehensive and $1000 collision, 50/50/50. I think it's pretty cheap considering how expensive things are in Hawaii and that the state requires no-fault. It's also insured as "pleasure use" (7500 miles) because this island is too small to need anything more.
