Insurance advice needed….please help
Does anyone here have SafeCo insurance (automobile or home)? I heard some shady reviews about this company and would like to know if anyone has ever filed an insurance claim with them.
Here’s the story:
My father’s s2000 was broken into 3 weeks ago. I guess the thieves flexed the window and got in because they left fingerprints all over the window. They ended up taking both seats, cutting wires to the seats and the alarm, and other things were stolen as well….luckily no top slash or body damages.
Well I filed the claim and a police report for my father because he barely speaks English and the adjuster came to look at the vehicle. She ended up giving an estimate of $750 less the $500 deductible. She didn’t include the seats because at that time she didn’t know how much it cost. I guess we had to get a full estimate from a shop (we didn’t want to bring it to the dealer because we had several bad experiences from them). We ended up going to a reputable shop and the estimate came out to $7000.
The shop fax the estimate over and immediately the adjuster calls and said that’s a red flag because the price difference is way higher than what we estimated. They keep on thinking that the seats are only about $800 each. I called the dealer to confirm and they said that both seats would cost around $7000. Now the adjuster wants to get a recorded statement from my father about what happened and he does it with the help of a translator on their end. Well a few days later the adjuster says my father refused to be recorded.
So now I’m pissed. I called several times but they keep on transferring me to different people. I can’t get a hold of our adjuster. I left her messages but she never responds. I wanted to tell her why she said that my father refuse to get recorded when he took time out of his busy schedule to get recorded. I finally got a hold of her and she says I’m no longer your adjuster, you have a different one and your claim has been transfer to the special investigations unit (SIU). I guess they determine fraudulent claims…I was like WTF.
So a few days later the person from SIU called me and said he would need to talk with my father. I was like okay but what is this all about. He said there were a few red flags that were brought up and he would have to interview my father. I asked him what those red flags were, he said A. the price difference is too high and B. your father refused to get recorded. So at this point I am pissed as well as my father.
We ended up scheduling an appointment and the SIU person came and starts to ask my father all kinds of questions that would tie him to making a fraudulent claim. My father is in his 50’s, retired war veteran, and is living peacefully. I am so f***king pissed. My parents has been with them 7 years paying all the bills on time and they go and think something like that. So now we are just waiting on him to report back to the insurance adjuster to determine whether they will pay us or not.
I am in the process of filling complaint with the insurance commissioner. Is there anything else I can do or any advice you guys can give. I have called and yelled at them several times but each time I have to explain the story all over, I guess they don’t share information or something

I think the best move is to get a Lawer on ur side.
The reason they make you tell the story over and over again everytime u call
because some of those phone calls are
recorded so they want to see of ur story changes . I hope u get full money back if not time for some recaro bucket seats .

I don't want to go w/ the lawyer route yet. We will wait until the SIU guy reports back to the adjuster and see what they say.

****, this is the insurance company I have. They're the cheapest option but after reading this and doing my own research, also looks like they're the shittiest.
I'm going to switch insurance companies ASAP, having these guys is apparently about as good as having no insurance.
I need a reliable insurance company because if something happens to my car, I need it fixed ASAP.

The "red flag" is their own fault for underestimating. They obviously have no clue how much the seats are, if anyone is rippng them off it is Honda and the ridiculous price for seats. I don't see how this can be fraud when I'm sure your dad only wants the car back to normal, not make a profit on it. It's not like he car sell those seats for $7k. Anyway, I can't really help out but I'm sorry to hear about your problems and thanks for the heads up on this company.
The police aren't going to do anything unless we know who did it or think we know who did it.
I wish I knew about this insurance company before...there would no way in hell would my parents still be with them.
