At 18, you really need to have collision coverage. Even with my experience level, 10 year older than you there is no way I'd own an S2000 with liability only!
It's just like anything. Nothing will happen to the car if you have full coverage but the moment it's only liability coverage you'll run off the road and then a tree will fall on the car.

Oh yeah. I just had a quote done myself. I'm 22 and driving that car would have cost me $230+ in insurance.

It depends on a number of things. I'm 31, and my wife and I pay about $260/month combined for coverage on the S2000 and TL. But, we live in S FL, where insurance is pretty high, and we have very high coverage limits (by choice).

though doing the math now, you could possibly be paying $3000 a year (at $250/mo) for full coverage. you get screwed either way!

Berk - you need to learn a bit about insurance. That is not an area to skimp.

Think about what this particular coverage offers you:

1. Bodily injury - $15,000 per person, $30,000 per incident. Should you get into a wreck and you break your leg and require surgery your bill will be more like $50,000. That is more than the individual $15,000 limit. So, you will need to pay $35,000 unless you have health insurance that covers the rest. In addition, should you injure another person in the wreck you are easily over the limit. I am medical professional and own a private practice....trust me, medical bills get big really fast.

2. Property damage - Say you hit a house with a wreck. Or, you take out a median and the government comes back for you to pay for it. You will not be covered for more than $25,000.

3. No Collision - FOOLISH!!!!! Thats all I can say. I ran my S2000 into a tree and it cost $16,000 to repair it. I have collision so I was covered, but you will not. Dont forget that most accidents involve 2 cars. How are you going to pay for the other car that you hit?

4. The overall limits that you have set for yourself are way too low. One accident and you will have expenses out the wahzoo and you will be kicking yourself for not spending more for greater coverage.

5. To give you an example of better coverage, my plan is the following:

$300,000/$500,000 bodily injury
$50,000 property damage
$300,000/$500,000 uninsured motorist, $25,000 property damage from uninsured

Plus I have Comprehensive ($0 deductible) and Collision coverage ($250 deductible).

My coverage is significantly higher than what you are looking at. Yes, I pay $140 a month because I am almost twice your age, but you should really consider going with greater coverage to cover your ass.

Good luck

It looks like you are not getting the insurance to actually protect yourself, but maybe just picking the minimum coverage required by law. The point of insurance is for you to have a safety net should you get into a serious accident. Looking at your limits, it looks to me like you'll be in big trouble if you get into a serious wreck. You should NOT look at it as a place to save money, especially when you drive a sports car.

Now, if you have enough money sitting around, and want to take your chances at not getting into a big accident, then that's your choice too, but somehow I don't think that's the situation you are in now.

And not having collision is just foolish IMO...

KNLG Thank you, I'm thinking that was the question I should have asked I have a steady job and the money to get the s2k. You are right I wasn't educated at all on insurance. Now I understand. Thanks once again

Yep, definitely talk to your agent and find out what the numbers & different coverage types actually mean. For the longest time, I only had the minimum coverage for liability (I think it was $25K), because I didn't actually know what all the covereages meant. Then I talked to my agent and he explained them to me. Then I realized that $25K won't cover the replacement costs for many of the cars that are driven in my area. It would suck to hit a BMW/Merc/whatever and not have enough coverage to repair that car. Subsequently, I bumped it up to $100K for a single car damage.

Additionally, I agree with the others that are stating that you should consider getting comprehensive/collision coverage, unless you have enough money in the bank to replace your S2000 in the case it gets totalled.
