What 245s have you measured?? If they have all been PolePositions then your suggestion might be incorrect.

Sorry, it's the engineer in me that's got me doing all this extrapolation and such! It reminds me of those good ol' college days!

Guys:

I think you are making a mistake by measuring to the ridge. The measurement from ridge to ridge is going to be identical whether the tire is unmounted, mounted, or on different rims (other than slight stretching due to inflation). What we are looking for is the size of the contact patch that will change in the different states. Therefore, I would suggest that you drive the tires over corrugated cardboard and measure the imprint. This should give the variations tire to tire, and mounting to mounting.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but circumferences don't change if you deform a shape.... though areas do.

Dan

I've simply measured across the tread area that contacts the ground. I have compared the stock 225 to a BF Goodrich, and a Yoko 245 and it was about an 1/8 wider.

Ok, I'll do it both ways: via measuring tape and also I will measure the imprint

Hey, I know that Davepcka was doing this last week and he measured the tires of four separate S2k's all with different rear tires. It is alarming how inconsistent the width is.

The most surprising one was SilverSurfer's tires on 18" wheels were actually not much wider than the stock S2K tire. That was weird. Maybe we can get Dave to pipe in?

Hi Song, Yea it was amazing the diffence that exist in the various tires. SilverSurfer with his 18" wheels and (I believe Perrelli) 255s where the widest (8 3/4"), but by only 1/4" over the stock 225s which came in at 8 1/2". Kraziks SO2PP 245s where the narrowest coming in at 8 1/4".

These numbers are rough and probably only usefull in relation to each other. The measurement was taken with a tape measure using the same technic on all tires.
