Default Inventory of Damage Prior to Your Next Repair - Would this work?

I have reason to believe that the mechanic who installed my new tires, damaged one of my wheels. But I really have no way to prove that. They blamed it on "road debris". I have an idea but am not a lawyer and so am asking for opinions. The next time I have the car in for service, I present to the service manager a list of all dings on the body and wheels. At the bottom of the list will be a statement that says that the dealership, tire company, etc. (actually named in the statement) will be responsible for any additional damage. There will be a place at the bottom for his signature and date indicating that he has read this list and agrees to the conditions. Of course, I may not find any service manager willing to agree to this. Opinions? Other ideas?

John, I have similar thoughts but just like RedY2KS2K mentioned, they'll tell you to go somewhere else. As a consumer, it would be nice to have the responsible party sign a contract saying they will do this and not do this, etc etc. However.. it all comes down to reputability and your repeat business with that shop.

I suggest you contact the BBB for now, maybe they are a member? maybe not. I suggest you talk to the owner, not the manager, the owner of the shop - if its just an independent tire shop. Never know what you can get accomplished, especially since they've avoided your issue by blaming it on road debris - road debris doesn't do that. And I can honestly tell you that from working at a tire shop, changing tires back about 10 years ago.
