Default Invidia exhaust droning...

What if you welded in a Hemholtz pipe? Would this stop the awful droning that I've heard so much about these exhausts? I work in a stainless steel fab shop and would be able to perform this mod if you think it would eliminate the drone. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Thats a good question.I have thought about this also. I think it would depend the size of the muffler. and where the pipe is mounted, and how long the helmholtz pipe is. as it is tuned to decrease the sound at a certian frequency. I just had the old mufflers replaced with some magnaflows, on the stock pipes. and it drones a little.and sound allright. and cost me less than $400. but I also have a CAI that makes droning sound also.I have seen a few cat backs with a resinator, a billy boat catback comes to mind. I think that most of the after market catbacks will drone somewhat, in the 3000-4000rpm range. IMHO. drive safe

I solved the drone!

Kill The Cat!

The acoustics with a gutted cat are great! It is a little louder, raspier with no drone. A test pipe will sound different but the cavity of the gutted cat changes the characteristics in positive way.

I get by with mine by keeping the rpms @ or below 3k. Obviously you cant always be under 3k but I usually do when I'm in 25-30 mph neighborhoods. When you are in the 65mph+ area theres not much you can do but turn the music louder. The exhaust does get quieter above 6k though.
