Default Invidia noise and drone solved correctly

I as many of you purchased an Invidia v3 exhaust despite the drone and just plain loudness of the system. I read several post and recently cut my exhaust right behind the resonator and placed the stock oem front pipe with resonator on the exhaust. It sounded perfect to me the drone was gone After awhile I wanted to see if I could get the same effect but still keep the Invidia pipes. So I searched and found that Vibrant exhaust made a universal resonator that was the same size as the oem resonator except that it came in diameters of 2.5" and 3" i.d. I chose to do the 2.5". I used the hangers from the Invidia resonator and had them welded on the Vibrant resonator and the result was perfection. It sounds the same as if you had the stock oem pipe and resonator on it. NO DRONE and I get to use the bigger 70mm Invidia pipes. Its a much better ride for my daily driver. I will try to put pics and sound clips up later tonight for those who may be interested.

Nice work. I'm sure that this is exactly what some others have been looking for also. I'm interested in hearing this out of curiosity. Try to post up some clips if you can.

if you're using a resonator with inlet/outlet of 2.5inches aren't you creating a bottle neck in the 70mm pipe?

Wait, so this kills the drone, but does it also quiet down the exhaust? Or the sound level outside the car is the same, but there's minimal to no drone inside the car?

I will probably switch to the 3" later and use stainless clamps instead of welds. But if you look at the resonator on the Invidia system as well as the stock resonator the inside is about 1/4" smaller than the rest of the exhaust pipe. Almost all actuall resonators I've seen are built the same way, so almost any system you get the resonator will be about 1/4" smaller than the pipe diameter.

Yes it does kill the drone. It also reduces the overall loudness of the exhaust. I had a buddy of mine drive it up the street slow and fast and its quieter on the outside as well as the inside. No more pissed off neighbors. It still sounds aggressive when you get in to it.

I'm wondering if the same effect can be had with another (cheaper, heh) universal resonator... definitely upload the videos. I'd be interested to see how your setup sounds now.
