Sorry to hear you got an SUV.

Guess you weren't thinking of all the other S owners that can't see around those moving roadblocks.

Oh well, just be sure to move over when you see fast approaching HIDs. Hehehehe.

Yes, I was exceedingly worried about your needs when I bought my new vehicle. It was pretty simple. I needed something that could carry six weeks worth of gear and that was four wheel drive for a half-way reasonable price.

Based on my driving record, I'm not terribly worried about hitting somebody else (yes, I realize its always a possibility), but more about them hitting me. Anyone who hits me can't complain about what they hit.

And LACK of consideration is a major problem with most of the people that own those beasts. Don't consider the ecological impacts (gas guzzlers), don't consider impact studies of other vehicles (since your useless bumper lines right up with our ROOF!), don't consider that you completely block any line of sight in traffic...........a general lack of consideration. I sincerely hope you are not one of those!
Most people don't own an SUV to inconvenience you. They own them because they will transport their family safely with baggage etc over distances in any type of weather or road conditions safely! At least thats why I own one. Now as for your so called impact studies, the suggested answer could well be to jack your S2000 up in the air another foot or so. So before you complain too loudly, consider the "impact" of your complaint. That advice may well be taken for your gripes about the environment. After all, one school of thought is that gas guzzling recreational vehicles should be outlawed all together. Guess what - in some environmentalists minds that includes the S2000. If your that worried about the environment convert to Amish. Drive a horse and buggy!

Munckee _ what make, brand, type of SUV did you get? I have a Honda CR-V. Would love to have a Pilot for the winter, but love my S too much to give it up.

I bought an SUV because, as I already stated, I need to take six weeks worth of climbing gear on a trip out west where I will likely hit fire roads, etc. on the way into various climbing areas. It will likely get passed on to my brother in a year or two, and he'll be living in Vermont where it snows a ton. He also does a lot of outdoor sports and could use the space and the ability to get to some more remote places.

I bought an '00 Xterra. By no means a civic, but far from the worst SUV on the road. Now, if you'd like to buy me another vehicle, I'd be glad to leave the Xterra sitting around until I need it.

Then there comes the question of what you would have me buy instead. The only other things I can think of are something like a protege 5 or similar wagon. Sorry, but contrary to popular belief, those don't have much space in them at all. I suppose I could have bought a crown vic with a huge trunk, but that's less convenient for me, probably only marginally better on gas, bigger, and doesn't get me everywhere I need to go (ie offroad or in snow).

What exactly is the poor safety design of an SUV? It's certainly as safe for the driver as most other things on the road. So I'm assuming that the safety issue you're worried about is what occurs when an SUV hits someone else. This is directly attributable to the driver. Obviously, you can't drive an SUV like you would the S, nor do I have any intention of doing so.

Face facts, while the SUV fad may be played out, it sure as hell isn't going away.

Anyway, I'm done with this discussion. I'm sorry you don't approve of my choice of vehicle, but I don't honestly care that much. As I said, I consider myself a decent driver and don't intend to start running people down because I'm in an SUV now. Don't hit me and I won't hit you, deal?

Obviously, we are not going to agree - thats ok but before you speak for
ALL THE OTHER S OWNERS
remember this is one S owner that lives in rural PA. An SUV is practical and safer to take that 6 year old to school. Thats exactly why the local PA school districts buy them!!! As for my SUV - it gets better milage than the S2000 and hauls more than twice as much load. And as a bonus, I can actually put the grandkids in it, where I can't in the S2000. (Read the warning on the passenger visor of the S).) Don't let that California Smog cloud your judgement of the life styles of other people. We don't all live in California. And a lot of people really do use there SUV's because they are PRACTICAL. You may not like them in San Diego, but here in the outback, they are a blessing. The only real tough decision around here is whether it will be a 3/4 ton, 4 x 4 pickup, or big ass suburban/Expedition. I will admit that it's nice that manufactures have come out with some smaller, more efficient SUV's like the CR-V. But those are not an option for the 5 passenger family. I suspect that if you had to walk in some other peoples shoes for a while, you would probably see things a little different.

As for the SUV, it's got a home in Western PA. Oh, by the way, a little historical fact. The first 4 x4 built in America ( if not the world) was built in Brookville, PA by the Twyford Motor Car Co. in 1903. The motor car company failed, due to problems with the differential, but you know the rest of the story. The patents and the inventor went to a new company called FWD. They built the 4 x 4 trucks for the US Army in WW I. THAT'S one long lasting "fad" and it all came about because of it's practical, it sells, and was needed. Face facts, it still is!
