Default I've Figured Out Why The S2000 Didn't Get A HP Increase!!!

Because Honda didn't want European and Japaneese owners to get pissed off from the US version getting more HP.

But I have two questions.

1) Why didn't they just make a higer revving (9000 RPM) 2.2 liter engine for evey S2000 in the world?

2) Does the Canadian S2000 have the F20C engine?

Probably true nasti... to answer your first question, you can't have the best of both worlds, hence no 2.2L with a 9000RPM rev limit. It would probably be too unrelaible and problematic to be a production engine.

I don't think Honda kept the HP numbers the same to avoid making owners in other countries upset; I believe they left them the same because their engineers are happy with the way the car is performing and this 2.2L engine is just a "quick and dirty" fix to appease the average american driver.

I disagree with STL......It is not like they are making 120K of these cars a year. They make 9K right?

But it seems to me like they would have to "TRY" to make a different engine put out the same hp MAV. It wouldn't just happen on it's on???

You have two different enigines with different liters, RPM's etc... but they have the same hp. I believe that it was planned to prevent resentment.

To note since the Euro and JDM Markets are staying with the original F20C, the MY2004 just got screwed in terms of mods since hardly any mods will be available, especially the good ones from the Japanese.

Its very normal when a new engine is introduced to put it into limited markets until production ramps up. Normally a company will run both production lines for a short time period. I suspect in 2005 all S2000 will get the 2.2 liter engine and the 2.0 liter will be discontinued.

There is no reason that the HP rating cannot be exactly as claimed. Remember that HP is calculated using torque and RPM, so the 240 HP rating at ~ 7800 equals the claimed torque, just like the current model's 240 @ 8300 equals the claimed and lower torque value.

I believe the engines are tuned differently allowing a bit more power at lower RPM with the 2.2, but the peak rating does not seem out of line.

Although marketing smoke is present in lots of places, I don't smell any in this particular case.

My guess as to why there is no HP gain is because Honda doesn't want a car 1/3 the price of the NSX to become any more comparable in performance.
