What is this red light that everyone talks about? I've made a few 9K runs and never noticed any light flash. Or maybe I was too into what I was doing instead of looking for a light flash. But anyway, where is it supposed to be?

Yeah, 75mph in 2nd gear definitely had redlined. Thank god I haven't done such thing (missing gears). I don't think I ever had, even in my previous cars.

You dodged a bullet. Good going pushing that clutch back in fast.

But don't make it a habit. The same maneuver could have wiped out your valves and some pistons.

You are lucky that your car is still in operating condition. You should go to 5th and then to 4th.

I wouldn't worry too much. Around 18 months back on one of my track days I changed down from 5th at 220k (137mph) as I was slowing to 170-180 (110mph) for the corner at the end of the straight. I got 2nd instead of 4th and believe me those revs were rising real fast as I was letting the clutch out at around 190k (120mph) under heavy trail braking into the corner. I instinctively knew I had grabbed the wrong gear and simply pushed the clutch back in and changed up to 4th, I then carried on my way for another half a dozen laps as if nothing had happened.

Providing you don't let the clutch out all the way out there is pretty little chance of serious problems. You just have to listen to the engine. As I say , that was more than 18 months ago and my S2k has suffered no ill effects.

Get an OBD-2 reader and see if you have an over-rev code set. Clear it before ever letting your car near a dealership. I guarantee you that they will look - even if you are just having your oil changed.

ok guys, just a sec,

your talking about a ahonda engine now, not a crystal vase.

if you even accidentally drop 1st gear from 6th (not that it can happen but just for the sake of argument) the only thing that can happen is that the wheels lock as if you pulled the handbrake (most probable), or if youre unlucky you could burn the clutch.

dont worry about it. pracise 5th > 3rd, more effective at the speed you were at you would have the vtec roaring away.

now if you have racing hi lift camshafts there would be danger of the valves knocking.

moreover dont worry, keep shifting!

I would like to agree with you but there have been some members on this board that have bent valves from over revving. I even think they over reved thier motor the same way that I did. I am not sure how over-revved thier motor was but I heard this motor has the capability of revving to 12k before doing damage but I may be just talking out of my ass.
