Would love to hear the other side of this. Did you leave anything out of your story? Seems kind of hard to believe.
Common sense should tell you that you were asking for trouble. The cop sees you and another car, hauling @ss between lights....showing your friend how loud the exhaust is throughout the powerband...on a city street. C'mon, you need to think.
Too many kids are dying or ending up in trauma bays (like mine) and now the cops are pressed to take action. At the very least, you're guilty of exhibition of acceleration and maybe reckless driving. It sounds like the cop was a d*ck; shocking I know. But, you need to take accept some responsibility... save the exhibition of acceleration for on-ramps or off-ramps or back roads.
good luck.

I would most definitely contact a lawyer, file a complaint on the officers, and threaten to sue the city for their incompetence and the aggravation it caused you.
Yeah definately do that!! my uncle is a judge in ohio and ive asked him about similar stuff like that, sounds like you've got a good case against them and they've got a bad case against you! LOL

100%

I didn't see you say if the two cars were side by side or one in front of the other, but either way, it could be easily interpreted that you were racing. You don't need to be driving over the speed limit to get ticketed for exhibition of speed or wreckless driving and I imagine you don't need to be driving over the speed limit to be caught for racing either.

Hmmm, S2000 with Invidia exhaust, TV, what else? Post some pics. Call me prejudiced but I suspect your car is a cop magnet.

i thought that "street racing" was a "contest of speed" and it doesnt matter if you are going fast or not, as long as you compete.
im not sure though

Hire a traffic lawyer who is familiar with the area of jurisdiction where you received the citation, this will be a 1-2 year ordeal...been there done that.

"racing" = "exhibition of speed" and you do not need to go over the speed limit for these terms to apply.

You're right in not agreeing on camera that you're going to jail for racing, but you might as well argue with the cop since you know you're going to jail anyway.

Common sense is key!

Street racing sucks! It caused many sleepless nights when I was on trauma call during my surgery rotations.

I'd like to hear the othe side of the story too! The cp that pulled me over called another cop to take me to jail. Cop #2 was a jerk and trying to egg me on but I was calm and polite the whole time. As we pulled up to the station I did some "name rcognition" hoping that this cop knew my friend, and found out he was in the same academy class with my friend. At that point he became real nice to me and told me how I was innocent until proven guilty and told me how to sit so the cuffs wouldnt hurt. He stopped treating me like a criminal. I hate how cops can do whatever they want and look right in the courts eyes. I know that there is no proof of me racing because I wasnt. I do agree that my car attracts attention, but never knew I could go to jail for going the speed limit and having loud exhaust. Oh yeah...Im 23 (look 18) live in Arlington, Texas. And was dressed in black pants and button up shirt when I got pulled over, so was my passenger. We didnt look like criminals at all. Does anyone know how long it takes in Texas to take care of this. Do I have a trial with jury? Any info would help...Thanks!

From what's been posted, it doesn't appear to me that your actions deserved to put you in jail. I could be wrong and you could be "not telling us the whole story" but I wasn't there so I can only accept what's been posted as complete factual information.

I'd contact a lawyer, to include names, times, location and give him/her all the details required. Did the officer tell you what speed you were going? Did they point out or identify who or what you were racing? Exhibition of speed and racing are (in my experience with local PD) 2 different things. Exhibition could be simply making a lot of racket, burning out, that sort of stuff while racing implies another car is involved.

Hmm Did your friend that was driving the other car get arrested to? If not make a big ass complain about it. I know you don't want your friend to be arrest, but if they didn't arrest him they're being preadjust towards your car.

I don't know about your state or city but over here if a cop think's your racing they can hand you a careless driving tick a racing ticket and such and such crap.

Just make sure you get yourself a good lawyer and don't admit guility even if they bargain with u with a deal. Cause they'll fock you over. I don't believe this type of trail will have a jury. Anyways good luck.

Oh yeah did the cop read you your rights while they were arresting you if not that goes againist the cop :>

well when my brother got busted for street racing, he claimed that he was going no where near over 80km/hr, but as it turned out, he was going at least 140 in a 70 zone
