Honda Japan registered 2 spec engines to the department of transportation a few months ago. One was a F20C and the other was the new 2.2L engine. My understanding was Japanese buyers get a choice of engines.

Pure speculation: could the 2200 be the base for a Type R to be released in Japan sometime in 2004 ?

Did Americans ever get the best stuff from Japan and Europe?

We should consider ourselves lucky that Honda let us play with the F20C.

that holds pretty true, honda screwed tuners hard when the 04 was released. In terms of engine performance, such as internals only a US based company can take on this task since the F22c? wont be a focus for the Japanese market. The new front end on the 04 will require the JDM body kit companies to invest in new toolings to create a functional lip to match with the new bumper lines, as same goes for the rear. The exhaust manifold is very questionable so we will see what happens with maybe 04 compliant exhaust tips.
