You guys are over reacting. I'm thinking road tests are going to change everyone's mind about the 04. I'll be sticking with my 01 but I'm glad to see some of the improvements in the 04 (lower gearing and more torque to name a few). Also, I've read in a number of posts here on the forum that both engines are to be offered in Japan( so its all speculation at this point). I guess I still haven't ruled out the idea that Honda might actually be making progress with the 04 and not going backwards.

Its common when a new engine is introduced to limit markets until production ramps up. Its likely that in 2005 all markets will get the 2.2 liter. Normally they overlap production runs when switching engines and then shut down the old line. I suspect that is what is happening here.

I don't think so. When stuff like that happens, it is always done in the manufacturer's country. So, if that were the case, we'd see Japan getting the 2.2l engine first.

I think this is more Honda's response to all those stupid cry babies bitching about the "lack" of torque in the F20C.

In response, Honda watered the car down to appease said bitches.

Yeah, who would want more torque? Also, that extra cupholder really watered down the car didn't it?

If wanting to go faster makes me a bitch, then call me a bitch.

I find it funny that most people complaining about wattering down the car have never even had the car on an actual race track. I know ... I know...canyon runs are the same!!

How about anyone who hasn't flogged the crap out of their pre-04 S2000 on a track keep their ignorant mouth shut about what defines a performance automobile. I know for a fact if the 04 has the torque where the reports say it does...certain turns are my local track are going to be real tough on me in my 01 compared to the 04!!

I find it funny that the closest most of the people complaing about the 04 being less of a sports car have been to actual race track is, "that sic 90 degree corner on the way to the seven eleven that I can take at 40."

Being somebody who's tracked and autocrossed his S2000 many times, I'll offer one thing to keep in mind - the Corvette C5, and the Z06 even more so, are both faster than the S2000 around a race track. Yet, I would not like to drive them.

Will the 04 be faster? Probably. Will it be more fun to drive? Well, I'll let you know once I drive one.

pwalker,

What "more torque"? 10 lbs? You'll really feel that in the backside I bet. And at the cost of a grand worth of rev time? What kind of trade off is that?

Having to re-learn my shift habits would just piss me off. I'd be hitting the limiter all day. If they wanted to give us better launches and a more torquey feel, all they needed to do was offer different gearing.

Hell, my vtec delsol had a 8200 limit so I haven't owned anything lower since '95 and if they lowered the limit even more, they might as well offer an automatic.

Slowly but surely, I see it coming......5 cupholders, navigation and a tow hitch. Time to trade the crotch rocket in for a fully dressed Hog I guess.

As far as watered down, I bet the so-called suspension improvements will make it feel nice and comfy, can't wait.
