Just buying a s2000
So being 16 i made a purchase on a s2000 as a first car now for myself. I know im going to treat with my car with great care but i have a question for you guys. i would be driving to school and parking my car about a half mile away you think this is safe or you think some one will come by and jack my wheels or worse. and also for a daily drive how do you guys do with your cars like parking, do you have a certin time you will go check on your car etc etc i just really want this car to stay in the best condition and i want your opinions thanks!
I refuse to park in between cars. Always park in a corner spot so at least one side is protected, I normally reverse park in a corner spot as close to the curb as possible (use your mirrors so you don't curb rash your wheels)
Since my car is red I always try to find shaded parking so my paint stays like new (maybe I'm just paranoid :roll eyes: ) but you don't have to worry about that. Depending on where you live I would invest in seat locks. You being 16 I would be more concerned about not wrecking the car and driving within your limits than where to park honestly.

most important thing is for you to know is that its a rwd, or pretty soon we'll have one s2k less on the streets. no matter how much you think "quit sweatin me, i gots this", you really dont, and you wont realize that untill you're facing oncoming traffic a few times. i think its stupid for parents to buy their kids these kinds of cars for a first car. Shoot, i had to save up for years before i could buy one. parking should be the last thing on your mind right now. and im pretty sure teachers dont let you leave class in high school to go check on your car lol.
Agreed! It lets you know when your car is being touched or messed with. Also with parking I try not to park next to a car and get as close to a curb as possible so nobody can ding your car with a door. Take it slow because this car car get you into trouble really fast. Wish I got an s2000 for a first car! Enjoy it!
I would have killed myself with an s2k at 16.
So how does going fast already help prepare you for a car like this?
Not knocking you; maybe you are a responsible driver, but there is no way in h3ll I'd let my 16yo have anything like an s2k.

i agree with jdrum1, please don't be reckless on the street, i know i was when i was 16.
don't gun it off corners in the rain
and i agree with zhashmi, with parking. i'm in college and i will NEVER park inbetween cars, i do not trust other college kids at all, most have nice cars(audi,bmw)/huge trucks and treat them like crap. and at my apartment i always park next to a curb and my friend(roomie) and he KNOWS not to door ding my car.
my parking rules lol:
1) always park next to a curb and hug as close as you can to it
2) can't find a curb spot, park far away from people
3) if it's crowded and you have to park close to where ever, park inbetween 2 really nice cars
4) NEVER park next to a truck (in parallel don't park in front or behind it)
5) never park next to shopping cart returns
and i'd be iffy with trees because of tree sap. i carry turtle wax bug & tar remover and a microfiber towel; whenever i get in my car again after a park, i check for bird poop, sap, etc to get it off the paint right away

I would be sure to by a set of lock nuts for the wheels. Also the seat locks would be a good idea as well.
And be sure to have good insurance coverage.
Me personally, I have three cars (including my wife's), so my S2000 sits in the garage unless it is going to be driven where it won't be sitting in a parking lot unattended for a long period of time.
Paranoid? Maybe. But I have learned there are a lot of assholes out there who love to vandalize and steal.
