At 64 years of age I ain't sleeping on the ground. Yes, hotels and B&B's for the wife and I. We still take our grandson camping but you can't believe all the stuff we put in the truck so the wife and I sleep well and to be able to get up in the morning with no more aches than normal(the grandson sleeps on the ground, he's 6).

I am only one year behind you but I still backpack (Heading to Desolation Wilderness for 7 days in 2 weeks) and love to car camp too. So many great small areas that are perfect for just a small tent (Silver Lake West for example-first come, first serve) The problem is my wife of 35 years is putting her foot down. No more ground for her no matter how nice the pad. That is why I was asking; to see if you found the magic elixir of female camping.
The magic elixir of my female's camping is a travel trailer which is mutually exclusive of the S2000. She insists on sleeping under tentage but wants a bathroom with shower, etc. which requires a hybrid trailer (see photo), a small popup worked but only for 3 seasons. There are queen beds in both tent ends, a full bathroom (albeit the size of a phone booth), galley, dining area, heat, AC, etc. This one is now on it's 3d SUV and into it's 15th camping season. It's an '06 model just like my S2K. Preventive maintenance is keeping them both on the road.
That might work. We have a 91 Starcraft Tent Trailer, with shower but no head, that is in pretty good shape despite heavy use over the years with kids. Wife just wants something easier to set up despite I am the one doing any setting up. All you do is crank it up and pull out the beds. Won't be able to keep that beast in the garage like the tent trailer but it might work.
I'm 60 and I *think* I could still get my wife to go for the tent. I still like to backpack (Kings Canyon NP absolutely rocks), though living in the midwest makes the Sierra Nevada a difficult trip, and it isn't in the S2000.

Makes for a good road trip and the way we're shaking you get a good massage at the same time.
My girlfriend kind of pre-inheireted her parents Class A motorhome about two years ago. Her mom had passed and her dad is past driving capability. We had to rehab a bit of it, and it isn't the prettiest beast on the road, yet it works for us. We've had it on a few long distant trips, a few with mishaps, and we're toying with the idea of towing the S behind this 34-foot machine. Yet the idea of yet another tagged vehicle in the fleet is daunting. Having a "head" and galley on board has come in handy the few times we've been out. We can stop just about anywhere and any time. Adding a trailer would make things a bit more challenging.
