Considering an '01 w/ 62K. Advice?
I sold my '98 Z3 last summer and am looking to pick another fun car this winter. Found an '01 S2K with 62K miles on for about $16K. What kinds of problems shoud I look out for on this car as a result of the year or mileage? I'd expect to do all the normal maintenance stuff, but are there weaknesses I should know about before I jump in?
Anyone have experience with these cars at higher mileage?
Thanks,
John

Theres some slight problems with the 00-01's... however not everyone has em.. offhand i can think of 2 TSB's that the car had which was the clutch rattle during decel around 3-4k, and a spark plug recall i think it was? I think all this info is listed in the library area of the site...
I would say try to get an 02-03 if possible for the extra 4-5k difference since most of the fixes were done then, also a glass window to take the place of the plastic one found on the 00-01's..
jus my 2 cents.

the clutch buzz is an annoyance, not a problem really. I have it and could car less; i just put it in neutral if i coast a long time w/o throttle.
i think the plugs were a recall; honda could tell you whether it was done most likely.
anyway, good price. i think the biggest thing to check out is to make sure the transmission does the high rpm 1-2 shift without grinding and the rest of the gears feel OK. Listen for clicks from the rear. A compression test should be done, too.
Other than that, this is a pretty bulletproof car.

I had an '00 and loved it but I traded it in for MY02 and well, I love my current "S" more
There are certain things about the '02 that are just better IMO, such as the glass back rear window, a better stereo system, and an upgraded suspension.
16K is not a bad price for the year and mileage you are talking about...if you could get the seller down to 15K I think you'd be getting a great deal. Just my two cents.

I bought an 01 w/ 60K miles for 16K about a month ago. They things that were wrong with it that I've noticed so far are:
the top strikers are worn causing wind noise: $40 to fix
the cv joints are worn and need to either be replaced or swapped sides: $1000 or free depending on which route I go.
Other than that, I totally love the car. It looks and drives like it's 2 months old rather than 2 years old except for what I've noted above. I don't mind the plastic window at all. In my opinion it's not nearly worth the added cost of a 02-03. Good luck,
JASON

The only major difference is the glass rear window. Audio was upgraded but it's still crap and can be upgraded with aftermarket stuff for a couple hundred $.
For the price, it's a good deal. Just make sure the car's not been into any accidents. If you have the VIN, I can look it on carfax for you. It would be nice if you could find one with extended warranty.
Good luck!
