Just need some information
hi guys,
well i was just offered a full sponsership for the S. Theres just a questioin that i have. How difficult is it going to be to have a turbo that is reliable and ok for everyday driving? I'll have an option to get a supercharger (vortech) but i always like the turbo better. I've been doing some heavy reading on turbo applications since i hardly know a thing about it...as far as maintanance, etc...and i know that speedcraft (?) makes one for the s2000. Is that the only one for the S? B/c i've seen on some peeps sigs that their S is turbocharged. Just wanted to gain some knowledge b/c i know a turbo isnt just something u slap on and drive around.
What are some of the key points that i will have to look out for? The guy i spoke with said the S2000 might be able to run anywhere from 12-15 pounds of boost???? is that possible?????any kind of info on this will be greatly appreciated.

I'm sure that it can handle over 15lbs of boost......after you blow it up and rebuild it from trying to run that much boost w/ stock internals
I think that the general safety range w/ stock internals is 5-7lbs to retain daily driveability. The most important part of building a reliable/streetable turbo motor is tuning.
Just remember that you probably paid somewhere around 30k for your car, do you trust your mechanic? Sure, he might hook you up w/ the parts but what happens if the motor blows up 10 minutes down the road? Our motors are in the $5k range. If he doesn't pay, can you afford it? I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but these are just some things that would concern me if I were in your shoes. If he agrees to pay for everything that might go wrong.....get it in writing.
keep in mind that these are just my thoughts. I'm not a mechanic nor do I know your specific situation.

forgot to add: I'd go w/ the turbo over the s/c. The turbo can be just as reliable as the s/c if it's done right, and generally you get more boost in lower/mid rpm instead all boost at redline.
Thanks for the info 1FastS2K....yea i definitly want to go turbo but just gave hiim a list of other mods i want to do first before i just jump into this. In the meantime, i'll just do some more research.
