Just a Question?
This has probably been beat to death but I'm back in a '08 AP2 now so I'll play. I had an '01 AP1.
I think the AP1's represent a purer vision, requiring just a little more balls to drive 'em. They come closer to being like an inline-4 sportbike. I'm sure they'll also be more collectible.
I do really like my AP2 for a touch more daily-driver torque down in the revs, some street-worthy features (stability/traction control, TPMS), and the latest suspension settings (spring/shock rate is killer-good along with the re-sized AP2 OEM tires). I'm hear they worked out some reliability bugs, the very reason I dumped my '01, CDV is part of that (we can hate it but it works). I like AP2 seats better than AP1's. I feel better-held in place. No idea what's up with the freakishly tall seat back though?

Another AP1 vs AP2 thread! Woohoo

I've owned a 2.2L before, and currently own a 2.0L now. Here are my 2 cents worth. I'm not comparing the rest of the differences between 2000-2003 and 2004+ models, and am only comparing the engines here:
1. The 2.2L engine with marginally more torque, along with its slightly revised gearing, does make day-to-day driving a bit more pleasant/easier. The 2.2L engines use a slightly shorter secondary gear in its transmission to achieve shorter effective gearing in the first 4 gears. The 5th and 6th gears' ratios are taller on the 2.2L to make highway cruising more comffy. With all that put together, the 2.2L "feels" more lively than the 2.0L.
2. The 2.0L engine has another 700-800rpm to go before it hits redline. 2.0L has the fuel cuttoff at 8900rpm, whereas 2.2L has it at 8200rpm. The extra revs are nice because both engines' VTEC come in at 6000rpm level (don't have the exact rev with me). With that said, the 2.0L engine would have a lower chance of dropping out of VTEC when you are driving, or in other words, it has a bit more slack for your shifting.
So which one do I like more? I actually don't know anymore. I wish the 2.2L comes with 8900rpm redline from the factory
Nevertheless, MORE PICS OF YOU PLEASE!!!!

lindsay, your best bet would be to go to a dealers lot and test drive both back to back and see for yourself which you like better.
I'm not sure if the AP2 is "better" because i haven't had extensive seat time in the AP1, but most who have upgraded to an AP2 in the Las Vegas section say they like the AP2 better.

I would get an ap2 because it's newer
if you have never driven a RWD sports car without traction control, go for the 06+.
BTW, there is a Toronto area S2K meet that is going to be 30+ s2k's I bet. It's july 12th at Speedstar in Markham. I suggest you go, you can test drive my ap2 if I see you there
