Just saw motorvision
I'm surprised that you guys are surprised. Did you notice the narrator? Doesn't BMW use that guy for their promo reels? I've heard him before. This is clearly a why you want to buy a Boxster S over a S2000 video. It's not a review, it's a sales training tape. Prove it. Go to a Porsche dealer and ask them some questions about the S2000. I bet they tell you it has a 10K redline but it's not a Porsche.
10k redline... someone told me that the Euro S2K has a 10k rev-limit, as opposed to the U.S. 9.2k rev-limit... could this be what they're talking about?
All in all the review kinda sucked, no real action shown at all -- and when it got to the commercial I was still hanging around waiting for the conclusion!
The Elise is pretty cool though

If you watch the into to the show its nearly all German cars so I guess that's a clue to who's paying for the show. At the end though, it clearly shows the Honda far ahead of the Porsche.
One funny thing, they say the Boxter has a much more distinctive rear end compared to the Honda as they show the back of the Porsche and then the front of the S2000.
As far as performance numbers go, the reason they didn't give any times or speeds of the S2000 is because they would have been faster than the Porsche which they had already said was a bit better. The only thing they said was it had a 12 hp advantage and was a better cruiser.

Sounded like the Porsche was squealing around the turns which the S2000 was just breezing through. Also noticed that the S2000 did not have the S2000 emblem near the side marker lights. I think it looks much cleaner without the "S2000" on its flanks.
Didn't like their comment about Honda using subpar materials in the S2000. If they need their S2000 dressed up, they can get the $300 MG Racing brushed aluminum or carbon fiber interior trim pieces and Ricks console cover and shift boot (and my headrests) for a total of a bit over $500. Let's see, that would bring the S2000 price up to about $33,000, still about half the price of a Boxster S with options.
I like the Boxster S, and think it's a terrific and civilized car which Porsche had to offer after the 4 cylinder Honda just kicked the bejeezas out of the 201HP and 217HP Boxster.
Oh, yes, almost forgot. The retard they had testing the S2000 couldn't even figure out how to lower the top. He had to fiddle with the overhead releases for a good 5-10 seconds so that the S2000 and Porsche tops disappeared at the same time. The fellow was so befuddled that he gave up on putting on the boot after making a total fool of himself for another 5-10 seconds. He should eat more fish, read the manual or practice before they actually shoot the scene. I thought that revealed that the "comparison" was really a done deal before they drove either car.

S2Kguy,
Are those are the numbers for BoxsterS in those magazines (in particular 16.9 secs for 1/4mile?! ... I'm having hard time believing that is not a missprint).
I have read some 20 comparisions and most magazines got a figure less than 14secs for 1/4 mile for the BoxsterS. Locally, the best time is 13.8secs. while best 0-100kph is 5.7 (equals to about 5.3 for 0-60mph). Also, on the track, in most comparisions the BoxsterS manages to lap a fracion quicker than the S2000 (though, I have 2 articles where the S2000 manages to beat the BoxsterS by about 0.1 secs).
I've never seen the S2000 administer a 'beating' to BoxsterS ... at best it manages to win a criteria by a 'whisker'. Usually it's the Boxtser that has the performance edge. Though, the only place the S2000 can compete with the BoxsterS is on the racetrack (or under 'racing' conditions' ... everywhere else the BoxsterS has the the S2000's measure.
