Is one setup better than the other if you are going to buy one set of new speakers anyway?
Is it worth the hassle of moving the stock door speakers to the rear?

I put the 01 speakers in the rear and new Infinity's in the doors. Mucho excellent!
I considered putting more expensive speakers in the rear but decided to try the stock door speakers first. I've never fealt the need to upgrade.

'02 stock speakers are upgraded from the '00 and '01 models. What year is your S? If you have an '02, I'd say to try what MyBad suggested.
I changed out my front speakers for Infiniti Kappa Components and the rears are Kenwood with a setup similar to Lucid's.
Hey Phil, you want my '02 stockers for the rear?

1st choice-- upgrade front speakers and after market rear speakers
2nd choice- upgrade front speakers and stock rear speakers
3rd choice- stock front speakers and aftermarket rear speakers
shouldnt cost much to get a pair of decent rear speakers. stock speakers really suck especially pre-2002 models.

hmmm... my '02 front speakers sounded pretty good to me - I installed the rears (5.25 Kenwood 3-ways) today using the Lucid harness.
The combination works for me. I'm happy with the sound quality. I took a few pics of the install if anyone is interested...

Change the fronts and add new rears. I am not much of a stereo guy, but I could not take the way the stock speakers distorted at high volume. I bought a great set of Eclipse speakers from a board member and the difference is beyond night and day.
So don't waste your time with the stockers at all. Switch em' out and throw em' out.

I just recently got finished installing my new sound system and I have to say that if you don't mind spending some dollars then just upgrade to a nice component set like the MB Quart Q-series, and do not put any speakers in the rear whatsoever. If you wanna go the cheaper route, then just move the stocks to the rear, and buy a good set of doors. It really depends on what kind of an audiophile you are I guess. I'm probably more picky than 99% of the population and couldn't settle for less.
