Keep S2000 or Upgrade to 718 Spyder?
After reaching out to Herr Kjell Gruner, CEO of Porsche USA, he conveyed that the 718 Spyder is one of the THE greatest Porsches ever made. He also conveyed the following:
If the rumors of a world wide crash coming are accurate, they will be asking for sales.
Maybe the thing to do is to put a deposit down on a build, as suggested earlier. It's going to take a while anyway.
Those stating that the gears are longish on the 718 versus the S2000 are correct. I used to do second gear runs in the twisties of the Texas Hill Country. So maybe I keep it in first for the same roads with the Spyder? Another consideration is the added space with the frunc; It's more of a travel car.
To charge above MSRP is a US market phenomenon, in February, 82% of ALL cars in the US were sold above MRSP. So what can you do? You can ask other dealers, and some will always sell for MSRP. Or you can wait a bit longer. We will get supply and this will bring the prices to MSRP.

The Spyder is the car to get for sure. If you can get one as MSRP it's worth the asking price... but at 170k I don't see it being a good buy and I'd lean to the GTS 4.0 instead.
I'm still very interested in a Spyder... maybe the way to go is to just do a deposit and order one if you can get close to MSRP on one.

You can't order a 718 Spyder anymore. All the dealers I went to turned me away at the very start of 2022 and said you'll never get one so we won't even take your name or deposit. Next up is all electric in 2025...
I looked at the Spyder too, but as others have mentioned here it just made more sense to go GTS for me. If you can deal with a non-F6 Porsche, the F4 2.5Ts are a great deal, and about $40k less than the cheapest Spyder. And still fast as heck. Probably not the Porsche to own from a collector's standpoint, but who cares about that?
My problem now is I have 1 too many cars for my garage, and I think I am going to have to let go of my beloved 2005 NFR S2k. I HATE the thought of parting with it--have been a huge S2k fan-boy since the SSM was first exhibited in 1995. Joined s2ki in 2001 and finally bought one 4 years later. I've loved it ever since.
But....things change. I also have a 2018 Alfa 4C Spider. And with the GTS Boxster, it seems like my poor Honda is last man standing. The 4C and the S2000 are spartan race cars manufactured for the street whereas the Boxster is more of a blvd cruiser compared to those two.
So a bit of a Sophie's choice between which quasi-race car to sacrifice....and sadly it just might be the old man of the group...

They still can be ordered. Porsche just brought on line another factory to meet demand for the 718, all versions. It's the ADM issue for me, as a matter of principle. My local dealer says they don't do ADMs except for the 718 Spyder, lucky me. USA Porsche CEO says there are some dealers that don't do ADMs, albeit not many. He also said they were working on supply. The recent news now confirms it. So I'll continue to be patient and still enjoy my S. Prices will go to MSRP at some point, and before the electric version of the 718s come out.
