Default Keeping Mice out

Well my car is going to be stored in a building that is surrounded on 3 sides by farmland and I am pretty concerned about keeping mice out of my car. It will be stored on jackstands but I know mice can still jump (how high?) and possibly still get in.

Anyone have advice to keep them out? I am not interested in using mothballs, dryer sheets, cat hair, etc.. as I have heard those don't work more than they do.

Thanks,
Parker

The best solution I have found to date is Peppermint Oil.

http://www.amazon.com/Peppermint-Oil-4-oz-...28151097&sr=8-1

Be careful with this stuff, if you get it on your skin, wash it off quickly, and DO NOT get it anywhere even close to your eyes!

I take 3 washed out tuna fish cans, put 3 or 4 cotton balls in each can, put 2 to 3 drops of oil on each cotton ball, put 1 can on each side of the floor in front of the seats and one can in the trunk.

Since doing this I have had zero problems with mice. Mothballs are nasty, they work but the lingering odor is just not bearable.

If you do some searching on google you will find peppermint oil is a common option for people trying to manage rodents, our cars though make it perfect because the space is enclosed and the peppermint smell can remain concentrated.

Sweet (literally) I'd rather have the cars smelling like Peppermint than mothballs.

We finally solved the problem using decoy owls. One inside the garage, and one outside; No more rodent problems.
Strange...

You keep the garage lights on all the time?

Seems to me mice are most active in the dark, but then maybe your owl glows in the dark.

Hahaha, it's never totally dark in the garage. Night light.

Mice and other nocturnal animals also have excellent night vision.

I actually think the fake owls keep the rodents totally out of the area, day or night. One side effect is that we no longer have any squirrels getting into our bird feeder.

I put traps in each corner of the garage, my thought is that if they are there they will get hungry and I am bound to start catching them. If I begin catching them at a fast rate (more than one or two), then I am going to take preventative measures (i.e. pepermint oil or some other thing) to keep the bastards out of my car. So far nothing.
