Default Key question

I have a 2005. The car only came with one key. It has three dots going up each side of the fob.

My local dealer says he shows two possible keys. One for $52 and one for $212. The $212 key is the one that matches the physical description of the key I have.

Both local Honda dealers can not tell me if the cheaper key will work. So here I am counting on the unlimited knowledge of my fellow S2K owners.

Thanks

Paul

i was given similar options(each at a lower price) by my local dealer. $35, I had 2 made and they work perfectly in my 2002.

I'd check with a local locksmith and/or hardware store if you have a good one near you. I had replacement keys made for my son's Scion Tc at a local hardware store, they had a machine that did the programming in about 10 seconds. MUCH cheaper than the dealer. When I had my keys made, I don't think these things existed outside the dealers. Worth a call or two. Good luck.

Local locksmith is about $100 total. I am going with that.

Thanks everyone

They should both work. The more expensive one is probably just the master key style that is silver and says s2000 on it. And the cheaper one would be the regular black key with the "H" on it. Most people don't even know a master key for the s2000 exists.

From what I understand on the '04-'05 APs, the car came with three different looking keys. One S2000 stylized key that you have. A generic black Honda key, and a gray valet Honda key. They are all "F-keys" (there should be a little F stamped on the blade), and they all work, but the valet key gets cut differently so it cannot open the trunk or glove box.

You can get the cheaper one from the dealer and it should work.

When I purchase mine used, it was missing the S2000 stylized key.

My car came with two of the stylized S2000 keys, like this:

Do they normally only have one of these keys? I wouldn't be surprised if a previous owner bought a second one because they lost the first; I actually had the car for a year when a friend who was helping me install car audio happened to see the second stylized key lodged between the passenger seat rail and transmission tunnel so who knows how long it was sitting in there.

This!

The picture in Syn's post is the expensive stylized one. (Syn-- you're lucky to have 2 of them!! That's a $200+ (plus programming) key!)

As Dwight said, the key with the black plastic head on it is the same key and works everything (doors, ignition, trunk, etc) so if you need a new key, it's up to you whether you want the fancy silver stylized one or the plain black one.

All 3 (silver stylized, black, and grey valet) came with the car when it was delivered new by the dealer.

My car came with only one key, this is the reason i called nearby locksmith to make one spare key for me to be used during emergencies.
