I also carry a swiss army knife and never leave home without it. I use it more then most people would realize. It's not a redneck thing it's a very functional tool.

This grinding on the wheel leaves small marks on the wheel's leather. Like several small parallel lines where the clip bounced down the side. Does anyone else have this problem and what do you do to prevent it?
I do (with a pen though, not a knife. Call me a nerd.) Took me forever to figure out what was causing the scrape marks on the steering wheel. These days, I try to remember to cover the pen with my hand. Or, I'll put it into my pocket fully rather than leave the clip on the outside.

I've become too habituated to the pen over the years to stop carrying it with me like I do.

So I wear a knife everyday. A small benchmade pocketknife with a pocket clip. Comes in handy all the time and I know lots of people carry pocket knives. I wear it in my right pants pocket with the clip outside of the pocket. Easy and quick to get to there. The problem is trying to get into and out of the car. The knife's clip is in perfect position to grind against the steering wheel while trying to get in, especially in tight parking spaces where the door can't be opened fully. This grinding on the wheel leaves small marks on the wheel's leather. Like several small parallel lines where the clip bounced down the side. Does anyone else have this problem and what do you do to prevent it? I know the easiest answer is to move the knife to my left pocket or to not use the clip. But both of these would make access to the knife much slower. The other option is to take the knife out of my pocket before entering the car every time but that is a hassle. Does anyone have a suggestion that I've overlooked? Thanks!
Had the same thing before. I carry my Strider right side IWB and with my shirt over it. Solved my problem with that.

Easy.

Carry a pistol in a IWB holster.

Or switch to being left handed and put your knife in the left pocket.

I always drop mine in my pocket. It's less than 3" and I think it's too small to be considered a weapon. I've also got one of those assist open kershaws that I love, but wouldn't carry. And Spyderco Harpy that's scary to even look at.

My problem is the cell phone. It flys off when I'm not paying attention. EDIT: Brushing against the stearing wheel getting in/out of course.

I had the same problem with my knife, the first time I noticed it I decided to switch pockets and it took me maybe a week to get used to it, But I am also ambidextrous, so that may have a bit of effect

Exactly what I was thinking. I had no idea that so many people carried pocket knives. I thought that was just for boyscouts.

now that i realize what a fob pocket is i realize that wont work. i already carry my fenix p1 in there. the tool handle paint-on grip stuff sounds like a good idea but im worried about its durability and how it would look. it did give me an idea for an alternative though, which is a small length of clear plastic tubing. if i can find a diameter that fits snugly, i think i could slide that on the clip and it would protect the wheel and whatever else i bump into! im not sure if it would look stupid though. i think i am too accustomed to having the knife in the pocket and carrying it iwb or in the back would completely throw me off. i also dont like carrying it down in the pocket unclipped since itll jump out when i grab my keys.

Just completely out of curiosity, if you don't mind me asking, what do you do for a living?
