Default Leaky window... A questions..

Hey,

My rear plastic window cracked, and the dealer used packing tape to seal it.

Well, the tape was peeling, and it's been raining here. And I noticed that it was letting in some water. I put a towel down, but water has already gotten in.

So what's under the plastic covers? Some water might have gotten in and I want to make sure it's not a problem.

The water getting in back there isn't going to be too big of an issue.

The thing I'd be concerned about is using packing tape to fix a cracked plastic window... that window needs to be replaced.

Underneath that panel is the trunk and spare tire. Remove the two "front" panels in the trunk (spare tire cover and the one to the left of it) and inspect for water and dry it if you find any. You may want to remove all the panels if you find a good bit of water back there. Water sitting in that area for too long can eventually lead to rust which isn't a good thing.

Ya, just pull the lining in the trunk and check it out.

If you aren't ready to shell out some cash for the top, just replace the tape or use some silicone seal to seal the crack as a temp fix ...

good luck man

Thanks. when it stops raining, I need to reapply the tape.

Since my top has the wear marks, I want to see if I can get the dealer to replace the whole top, or if not, I'm probably going to get an aftermarket glass top.

Packing tape?! Ive heard of ghetto fixes, but c'mon!

However, unlike other peoples opinions, i do think its a big deal. If enough water gets in there, rust will be an issue. There is a good deal of metal that isnt really treated back there, and will rust quickly if water starts hitting it. If it were my car, I would take care of it right away.
