Got my leather console cover, from Rick, installed over the weekend. It looks great. However, the tape is not sticking well to the sides of the center console. I cleaned everything the best that I could using some 3M lint remover sheets (clear, plastic sheets with a light adhesive to remove lint, hair, etc. from clothes).

I press the console cover back into place everyday but by the end day it's coming loose from the carpet. No problems with the top portion. I was hoping that the heat from being parked in the sun might make the tape a little "tackier" but it doesn't seem to be helping.

Any suggestions?

Just a guess. Maybe some of the 3M adhesive stayed on the carpet and bonded with the adhesive on the cover tape.

It's pretty weak adhesive -- just strong enough to pick up lint and hair. I did reposition the sides a couple of times but not before I pressed really hard to set it in place.

Try some carpet tape. It should be available at your local hardware store. I'm sure Rick will have a comment on this problem as soon as he sees this post. I'm sure he's either working or sleeping off Asheville.

Tape adhesive is so strong and carpet so week by repositioning cover the adhesive was covered in carpet fibers and will not restick. This happened on the very back of mine on drivers side (behind seat) and it does not stick.

Sorry for your problem. We will send you new tape.
Just email me your request with your real name and address.
This goes for anyone with the same problem.

Thanks,

Hey James,

I'm having butt heat (electric seat heaters) installed soon so I can continue to drive top-down in freezing weather .

Anyway, I'm pretty sure that the installer is going to have to get under my beautiful leather console cover to install the switches. Will he be able to put it back securely without new tape?

Thanks,

Ted

Tedster,

I have removed and reinstalled a few console covers.
My luck has been totally random. It would probably be best
if we sent you some more tape, to be on the safe side.

James

I'm hoping that as a professional upholsterer he has some, but I'll check...

If he doesn't, I'll take you up on your generous offer.

Thanks,

Ted
