I'm just wondering why the leather console cover does not use the same grommet plugs that are used to hold the carpet in place.

Also, how about just velcro-ing onto the carpet itself?

Ahhhh Rick, another use for the Velcro...I'm slowly beginning to see the light: Velcro is the end all winner, hands down, of all products out there in the "adhesion" industry.

To all, this is what I did last night. I lifted the console cover sides up and out of the way. I then took duct tape and taped it to the carpet where the sides of the console cover adhere to. With one swift motion, I peeled off the Duct tape. This took off alot of the loose carpet "hairs". I then took some ordinary thin foam double sided tape and re-stuck sides down. So far no issues of the sides not sticking....however, I couldn't get the cover under the plastic trim as nicely as James had done it (and yes I ruined a credit card in the process).

The other thought I had was that the duct tape itself stuck REALLY well to the carpet. If I can get some more of the original tape Rick uses, I may just lay duct tape onto the carpet and then double side tape the sides of the console cover to the duct tape.

s2ktaxi, I've tried Velcro on the carpet material for other stuff but it just doesn't seem to grab it very well. Maybe a heavy duty type Velcro might work (like the kind that holds radar detectors on motorcycles). Take Luder94's idea one step further. If duct tape sticks on the cleaned carpet well, why not put duct tape on it and then use double-sided tape to hold the console cover to the duct tape?

The first prototype developed last year used the grommet plugs. Frankly, it looked like s**t. So we walked away from that idea in a hurry.

How about hook clips that slide under the carpet edge?

You have to understand that when we develop prototypes we try all of these things, as we did with the console cover. The solution we arrived at was the most practical and aesthetically pleasing.

Many great projects have been ruined by trying to go easy on the duct tape.
