Live in NY want to buy S2000 in MA
No worries - mine was used as well. It was an 05 Silverstone w/ 11k on it - bought in June of 06. Was NOT from a Honda dlr - a auto mall. Did most of the deal over the phone, drove my RSX-S up there ... waited about 2-3 hrs of paperwork/prep (and general dealer BS) and then was on my way home in the S.
WOW - what a drive home that was. Beautiful day, finished the deal around 5, got home a little before 9 ... smiling ear to ear the whole way.
Just look around for the car you want before going all that way. Very likely you can find one closer.

I bought my car from NY (private deal). I took the risk of using someone else's plate. I live in MA too. I got home safely. Just don't do anything stupid.(even though i was speeding like a mad man, couldn't help it ^_^)Best is to drive home at like 12 no cars! but it'll temper you to speed cuz its free roods =(.
Remember to get the NY Sales Tax worked into the deal or else it will cost you mucho $$$ to regbister the car ... I didn't and ended up having them re-write the paperwork with it included, otherwise it would have cost something like $1,200 to register.
I can confirm that MA does not have a temporary plate. Many of the scenarios above involve using a previously registered plate transfered onto the newly purchased car, which is totally different. In MA, you either have to use a plate which you are transfering from a different car, or you have to have a new plate from your home state. In this case, you do not have a plate from a car that you are trading in, so you need a plate from NY. In order to get the NY plate, you must first pay for your car in MA. Sorry, but that is the way it works in MA.....not that I'm for it, but that is the way it is.
Some of these other ideas work, like having the car transported.
I would also check NY DMV and see if you can get a temp plate in NY.
If you are sure about this car, perhaps you can pay electronically, have them send the title so you can register your car in NY, then bring the new plate to pick up the car here in MA.
Good luck with the new car!

Thank you everybody for your replies. I am a NY resident trying to buy an S2000 from a dealer in Massachusetts because the price is good. I would also like to do it in one trip.
Since Massachusetts DMV doesn't allow a temporary plate for the purpose of driving to NY you have to either transport the car to NY or get a NY plate by going back to NY and registering the car after paying for it. Then return to the dealer with the NY plate and drive home.
The dealer will register the car for you but the one I am talking to said it would take him a week to get the NY plate.
