You made me go out and look at my 09. It is easy to see my two VINs in the rear. One is on the trunk lid and the other is on the number, just right of center, below the bottom trunk latch. Its white like the rest. I did not see it in the pictures from the site you provided. If the trunk lid one is there then the reason for the bumper replacement was not too bad, I would bet.
You can see it here, I removed the lining for sound insulation work.

I've seen them on years before and after so my assumption is it should be there, but the 3 that I've seen photos have not had it and the owners manual online didnt indicate the exact locations...

Edit So far... 6 05's without and 1 with. I've seen a number of 04's as well. Just seems odd. I wish you could actually trust CarFax or AutoCheck for these things.
