thanks for the comments everyone.

Nate03, yes i have the yellow box properly installed & calibrated. maybe it needs to be readjust? that's something i have to look into. there's a speed reminder(?) on the street that tells your speed, and that's on the 25mph limit street. it does read correctly at 25, but that might change at a higher speed. because i remember seeing 5k at 80mph.

The YB does not change the RPMs, only the speed.

I have the 4.77's, I use another car for longer trips. They were a bit buzzy before and they still are. The car just runs at very high RPM's. I just love the take off now with the gears. I use my car for around town and a small comute to and from work. If you require long trips not only are the gears not a good option but this car is not a good option. I love the gears so far, stop and go traffic is so much better, launching is soooo much faster.

You're WAY over paranoid. These motors like to spin. Cruising at 80 with 4.57's puts you at the same RPM as cruising at 89 with stock gearing, certainly not a big deal. It's not screaming, it's purring.

If the engine wasn't designed to run at 5k rpms, why isn't the rev limiter at 4k? Way to paranoid...

Has anyone heard of the 00-01 oiling bolt not delivering enough oil in the upper range of pre Vtec? 03 got the new oiler, i'm not sure if 02 model did or not. There were many instances where long duration drives of 4500-5500rpm was causing the rod bearings to seez, the oiling bolt couldn't keep up with the added heat the engine produces at this rpm for long durations and was causing failure. You have to give the older models a surge of vtec often if driven in this rpm range in order to squirt enough added oil on the rods, Vtec opens up more oiling pressure. This was considered neccisary for long durration trips at this rpm range. You can buy the updated oiling bolt which has more oiling holes in it to solve this problem for your first series AP1's. Just FYI guys since I didn't see this come up in the thread. Do a search if you need more info. If you have one of these year Ap1's I wouldn't reccomend running at 5grand for hours on end reguarly until you update the oiler bolt, you could lose a rod.

understood. perhaps at 5000rpm he's doing more than 80mph but only reading 80... a possible effect of calibration of YB being off with current wheels/tires/gears?
