Default Look for a S2000

Hey guys I"m looking into getting a used S2000.
I'm wondering what are the differences between the different model years. Once I can figure out the differences between all the model years, I can decide on what I want.
I also would like to know if once I get the car and it is still under warranty will I be able as the second owner to purchase an extended warranty, and what kind of warranty will it be?
Are there any "special" maintainance costs in owning a S (except new rear tires every 15,000 miles)
Were there any recalls on any components of the car or any defective components to whatch out for?

Thanks a lot in advance since no sales person would ever be honest with, you are the only people that can help me out.

Alex

as long as the car is under the original warranty, go to hardtopguy.com and buy the warranty. it's that simple.

I am not an expert and others may chime in their opinions. To me, watch for the second gear grind in early models and the 2002 models got the glass window. The MY2004 got a slightly different engine and some other changes that to some are not signficant to others is extreme. Most people agree to disagree which car/engine is better. Look closely at the car as there are some good deals if you spend the time. About a month ago I thought I saw a 2000 model with like 3000 miles being sold from a exotic car dealer (should be in great shape) of course at a premium ($22k?). Remember the car begs to be driven hard and some used ones out there have been pushed too hard for what I would want. Go with your gut instinct, only look back at those you pass on the road & enjoy.

Thanks man,

Can you speed shift in the S?
How can you tell if the engine has been over reved?
So a 2002 or a 2003 is the way to go.
Is the 2004 2.2 S only for the USDM?

The 2.2Litre engine in the 04'+ is only USDM.
I thought 02 - 03' was the best choice, and I purchased accordingly.
I do love the new interior in the 04's though
