Looking for answers
When my rears had appx 9.5k miles on them I changed over to new ones, it made a big differance on the way it handled on the road. Mine still had tread on them but it would have been sketchy if they would have passed inspection.
They put the car on a flat bed and towed it away while I was being grilled by the cops. . . have to love Virginia. Tread on tires was good (Still looked new and had good tread depth). Car passed inspection not six days before.
My number 1 reason would have to be tyre pressures, assuming you already knew how the car handles. Even one slightly under-pressured tire can cause very serious handling issues, even in the dry. My drivers side tyre was low the other day (about 22psi
), as I went round a gradual bend on a slight downhill gradient the traction gave up into a gentle drift much sooner than it should. There was noone around and it was easily controlled, but I ended up in the next lane, had I been going faster it could have been different.
