Looking into an S2000
Hi,
Im a little new the S2000 world, although i have read alot of threads before i decided to register. Alot of good info. I have two questions. First is concerning fuel consumption or MPG ( sorry, im an aircraft mechanic kinda talk a like a nerd). I 've seen threads where some people say near 30 mpg on the highway, or upper 20's range. just wanted to know anybody elses experience, especially at speed 70-80ish on the highway. I have a long commute to work and rotary engines aren't too nice at the gas station.
2nd is insurance rates. I am 20yrs and live in FL. Just wanted to knoe if someone is near the same category. I currently drive 91RX7 Turbo 2. So I was thinking rates may be similar, but then the convertible issue comes into play. Or maybe im just completely off.
I do plan on owning an "S" as you all call it. I've been keeping an eye on them every since the came out. Just wanted to get more perspective before I buy.
Thanks for any help, Great Site.
Mike

I usually do between 70-80 MPH on the freeway and get about 20-25 MPG depending how aggressively I drive. My car is a '02 model.
Don't know how much insurance will be for you. The only real way to tell is to call and get a quote. IMO it isn't that terrible, about average for a sports car. But I'd wager it'll cost more than your current '91 RX-7. At the least, the comprehensive is going to be higher for sure.

as far as i know MPG for S2000 is 20/24
i guess its all depends on how you drive but its high rev car 8000-9000rpm and its stupid not to push the car
u can get old CRX and drive it around for weeks w/o filling up the gas tank
as for the insurance... i used to own 00' integra and my insurance went down by $1,000.00(per year) after purchasing a brand new S... the insurance agent told me that S has better safety features and is less likely to be stolen

I get about 24-28 mpg when commuting to work. I have a about a 10 miles on the highway with speeds in the 70's and then 5 ore on the surface streets through the city. Pretty good mileage, considering I was driving an 03 Civic Si that struggled to get 28 mpg.
As for insurance rates, I live in Seattle, so I cant be any helpfor you.

Let see, I usually get about 25 MPG (statute miles and US gallons) on a mix of highway and city and the California 91 octane weighs about 5 pounds per gallon. For aviation purposes, that comes to ? ...
%. * #.->about 5 miles per pound ... a little less for nautical miles

I went from a 1991 RX-7 N/A Streetport...

Insurance is the same for me, and I'm 18.

Oh and if you think gas prices went up, you should look out how much people pay for Jet-A
Mike
Jet-A isn't too bad...I'm a current Embry Riddle student in Prescott...so ya...I see it every once in a while.
I have tried to see what kind of gas mileage I COULD get out of the S...doing 72 with cruise on, windows and top up, and A/C on intermitently about 60% of the time, I was able to get 31mpg...actually like 30.85 or something...but I just call it 31.
doing 90-95 cruising through AZ roads, I typically get 26-27
and most city driving is 20-22 with agressive driving in there...occasionally I'll get 19mpg when I'm really pushing her.
insurance...likely to be more, I don't have the best record so I'm currently paying 260 a month and I'm 19
